The event brought together industry leaders from across the world, serving as a powerful reminder of the scale, diversity, and intricate details that shape our world of trade. The team had the opportunity to widely connect and network, where ideas were exchanged and the vision for the industry’s future was discussed. Recently, our Managing Director Sanket Naik attended Commodity Trading Week (APAC) where industry leaders came together to share insights about regulatory changes, technological innovations and sustainable practices in the maritime industry.    He was part of the panel 'Sustainable Energy Mix: The road ahead for APAC Traditional and Biofuels’, moderated by Han Meng Chan, the founder of the ADL Capital Group. Sanket spoke about the glaring gap between the knowledge and execution of sustainability practices within the maritime industry. He elucidated that despite ever-growing awareness on the sustainability and ‘go-green’ front, the tools to execute that vision and mission are insufficient. In fact, even though Singapore grew as a multi-fuel bunkering hub in 2024, the contrast between usage of fossil fuels and alternative fuels still remains sharp.    He further dived into a burning question: Why are shipowners intrigued by biofuels, yet hesitant to commit to sustainable purchases? He discussed that while biofuels promise a greener future, the industry has not yet been able to efficiently unlock their accessibility and functionality. Real-world challenges like cost, availability and regulatory uncertainty often hold back its widespread usage.   The maritime industry has set its sights on sustainability, but there’s still a long journey ahead. Last week, Sing Fuels had the pleasure of participating in the 10th Middle East Bunkering Convention (MEBC), which offered a platform to reflect on how the bunker industry has evolved over the past decade—its challenges, opportunities and the trends shaping its future.   AbdelRahman T Naga Regional Supply Manager — ME & India at Sing Fuels took the stage as a panelist for the session: "Business as Usual? Commercial Challenges in the Mid-2020s", moderated by Lesley Bankes-Hughes. He shared Sing Fuels' perspective, backed by 2024 data, on the shifting supply chain landscape across the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. AbdelRahman also highlighted how we’re adapting to industry challenges and the many roles a trader plays beyond just securing competitive pricing.   Beyond the panel, MEBC was a fantastic opportunity to connect with professionals from cargo trading, commodity trading and bunker trading firms and more! Sessions detailing the IMO and UN regulations on shipping were particularly insightful and informative.
