𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗕 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲! We start this week's edition by announcing the eight finalists of  The Liveability Challenge (TLC) 2025, selected from over 1,000 submissions spanning 100 countries: [https://lnkd.in/gQx8_wZd] Though politics and economic uncertainty have resulted in "a little bit of a shakeout", Asia's energy transition remains a high potential area for decarbonisation and sustainability investments, remind delegates from the inaugural Hong Kong edition of Unlocking capital for sustainability, held last week. For example: Hong Kong is close to implementing its own polluter-pays scheme. Experts at the launch of impact documentary WASTED said the city’s beverage container return rebate was a good starting point: [https://lnkd.in/gWPdSmqA] 🗞 🔔 Catch up on the freshest developments in this condensed version of 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆. 📬 To get these stories directly in your inbox every Wednesday, subscribe to 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 or explore the complete selection of newsletters on our website at https://lnkd.in/gphNAkS

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗕 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲! Cuts to USAID have lost Asian nonprofits US$275 million in support. A new survey by Asian Philanthropy Circle indicates that, of that amount, organisations are only confident of replacing about US$2 million within a year. 🗞 🔔 Catch up on the freshest developments in this condensed version of 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆. 📬 To get these stories directly in your inbox every Wednesday, subscribe to 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 or explore the complete selection of newsletters on our website at https://lnkd.in/gphNAkS

  • Peatland watchdog Pantau Gambut released a new report examining three peatland-rich regions of Indonesia: the island of Sumatra; the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo, known as Kalimantan; and the Indonesian half of the island of New Guinea, known as Papua. They found that nearly half of Indonesia’s peatlands are vulnerable to flooding due to degradation caused by unchecked exploitation, with 6 million hectares (15 million acres) — an area twice the size of Belgium — classified as highly vulnerable.

🇮🇩 Eco-Business' award-winning range of newsletters are published daily, weekly, and monthly. Below, a preview of the April edition of our Indonesia country newsletter. Indonesia – which operates the world’s fifth-largest coal fleet – was the only Southeast Asian nation to propose new coal plants in 2024. The nation's sole energy buyer, state electricity firm PLN, is reluctant to procure clean energy amid a surplus of coal power, say observers. Unlocking capital for sustainability is returning to Indonesia in June 2025. • [OUT NOW] Special report co-published by Eco-Business and Macaranga Malaysia's federal government says the Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) approach has spurred state governments to expand protected areas and run more conservation programmes. Yet as environmentalists are calling for more EFT funding, our latest analysis finds little transparency of most of the money disbursed, despite some state-level data from Johor and Sabah. This report was developed and written by Samantha Ho, with editing support from Ng Wai Mun and Macaranga Media's YH Law.
