Thailand is poised to legalize casinos through the Entertainment Complex Bill, expected to take effect in mid-2025, which aims to boost tourism and generate substantial revenue while addressing social concerns through strict regulations. The bill would allow for five casino licenses in designated areas, requiring operators to be Thai-registered companies with at least 10 billion baht in capital and to include multiple entertainment businesses beyond gambling. As Tip-apa Limvichai of Chandler MHM Limited CMHM notes, "Thailand can adopt a similar model [to Singapore and Macau] by implementing a centralised regulatory authority, conducting rigorous background checks, and enforcing strict social safeguards, such as entry taxes and exclusion programs for susceptible individuals." 🔗Sarah Wong reports on by introducing the Entertainment Complex Bill, Thai government's challenge to balance economic growth with social protection measures: https://lnkd.in/gwvJsTMF
