Jean Salata, Chairperson of EQT Asia and Head of Private Capital Asia recently spoke with Sandy Ogg on his Sandy On Talent podcast. Reflecting on what he’s learnt in his career – from paperboy to CEO – Salata discussed why naivety and self-belief helped him, what you need to be a good leader, and why you should never stop listening.
Some of Jean's biggest takeaways:
🏢 A career mistake? “It’s a mistake to think that if you're a leader, you have to have all the answers and to come out with some definitive responses to things.”
🥇How to develop? “Continuously evaluate things that are not going well and don’t let them get you down too much. Then pick yourself up and keep pushing and try to figure out what you can do differently to be more successful.”
🚩A lesson from his boss? “Success breeds arrogance. Arrogance causes you to stop listening, and then once you've stopped listening, you're in decline.”
