PROMONTORIO celebrates its 35th anniversary this February! Five friends, fellow students, who grew together and persist in the search for an architecture based on strong principles of solidity, stability and durability. We went from a small studio to a company of seventy Architects, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects, Graphic Designers and all the other behind-the-scenes people who make this happen! Conference "The Tectonic Culture" and the Return to the Disciplinary Foundations of Architecture Paulo Martins Barata, founder of PROMONTORIO, has been invited to participate in the doctoral seminar in architecture at ISCTE, dedicated to the theme "The Tectonic Culture and the Return to the Disciplinary Foundations of Architecture." The conference will take place today, Dec 4th, in Auditorium 302 - Building 4 CVTT, between 3pm and 5pm. Open to the public, it will feature the following guests: Mónica Pacheco – Who will focus her presentation on the 2014 Venice Biennale, curated by Rem Koolhaas, dedicated to the theme Fundamentals Paulo Martins Barata – Will address tectonic culture and the concept of meta-modernism. Joana Couceiro – She will talk about the reconstruction processes in Lisbon downtown, in particularly Álvaro Siza project, after the 1989 fire. Nuno Tavares Costa - It will draw on the thought and work of Paulo Mendes da Rocha to address the concerns of the Anthropocene. Synopsis The current climate crisis challenges architectural discourse to return to the fundamentals of the discipline. In times of crisis, there is generally a return to basics, seeking from there to establish a critical review that allows structuring the disciplinary continuity of architecture. Among the theorists who dedicated themselves to defining this foundation, Gottfried Semper (1803-1879) stands out who, in “Four Elements of Architecture”, also framed tectonic culture at a critical moment marked by the intersection between the technological apogee and stylization revivalist of History. The urban pressure of recent decades, associated with the risks of extreme natural events caused by climate change, brings to the table fears about the resilience of the urban and building models that have been followed. The current challenge is to know how these contingencies can be faced within the spectrum of a modernity that, necessarily, must continue to be reinvented as a collective and symbiotic process towards the planet. #promontorio #portugal #lisbon #seminar #conference #architecture

PROMONTORIO Visit to Casa da Arquitectura: Exhibitions + Archive We had the privilege of visiting Casa da Arquitectura - Portuguese Centre for Architecture, founded in 2007 as a non-profit cultural Association, located in Matosinhos (Porto Metropolitan area), Portugal.   During our visit, Arch. Nuno Sampaio, the Executive Director and Chief Curator, and Afonso Leal, the house Monitor, warmly welcomed us and provided an insightful introduction to Casa da Arquitectura, a remarkable institution dedicated to promoting and showcasing architecture, both within Portugal and internationally.   Among the exhibitions on display is Xerox Portugal building, one of PROMONTORIO's most representative projects (Xerox Centre Project).   We were also guided through the Archive by Arch. José Ferreira, Director of the Archive and Library.
