🔴 Next.js Middleware Authorization Bypass – CVE-2025-29927 CVE-2025-29927 exposes a flaw in Next.js middleware, allowing attackers to bypass authorization by manipulating request headers. This could grant unauthorized access to protected resources. While Vercel deployments are automatically protected, self-hosted Next.js applications must patch immediately to mitigate the risk. No matter how complex or sensitive a topic may be, it is through the exchange of ideas and the exploration of both conventional and disruptive scenarios that we drive real action and meaningful progress. On February 28th, I had the opportunity to attend thought-provoking talks that addressed critical and often unspoken challenges—issues that many in the room had reflected on but rarely had the space to discuss openly. The Focus on OT conference provided that space. It was a platform where essential topics were debated, key questions were raised, and the security of sensitive and critical OT systems took center stage. I had the privilege of contributing as a speaker, presenting Ethical Hacking as a proactive solution to prevent future attacks on OT. My talk focused on detecting vulnerabilities before they can be exploited and demonstrating how these vital systems can be tested safely, without disruption. My goal was to highlight how Ethical Hacking, when applied thoughtfully, can be both a creative and precise tool for identifying and mitigating attack vectors. To illustrate this, I shared insights into the common vulnerabilities found in OT systems and how to effectively coordinate security testing—drawing from ETHIACK experience in safeguarding critical infrastructure. A huge thank you to EPAL – Empresa Portuguesa das Águas Livres, SA for the invitation, and to Alexandra Cristóvão and Sergio Trindade for their support and generosity in making this opportunity possible. It was an honor to discuss a topic that is as fascinating as it is crucial.

Let's talk about Cybersecurity in the Public Sector 🤝 On 20 February, we participated in the AI & Digital Transformation in the Public Sector: A UK-Portugal Dialogue, where Jorge Monteiro joined the Cybersecurity Panel, moderated by CALM António Gameiro Marques. With digital transformation reshaping the public sector, cybersecurity can no longer be an afterthought. These entities manage vast amounts of sensitive data, making them prime targets for cyber threats that are becoming more frequent, sophisticated, and extremely disruptive. Addressing these risks requires more than periodic security checks, and that's where Continuous Penesting can help, providing an ongoing, proactive approach to identifying vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
