Flanders in Poland and the Baltic States

At the Medicine, Refugees and Civil Protection Conference in Rzeszow, Fanny Puylaert from the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders focused on the role of the third sector (civil society) in the Ukraine refugee crisis. The conference was organized by Fundacja Polskie Centrum Pomocy Międzynarodowej (PCPM) under the patronage of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union. Ms. Puylaert’s conclusions are useful to smoothen the cooperation between governments, the private sector, and civil society. Thank you to PCPM for the splendid organization of the conference! Did you know that Dutch Studies in Poland are the largest in the world? Impressed by this statistic, Gunther Van Neste, General Secretary of the Taalunie (Union for the Dutch Language), went on a study trip to Poland. Together with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Poland, we had the occasion to accompany Mr. Van Neste at his meeting with Dom Holenderski (Dutch House) in Warsaw and the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan, as well as the Uniwersytet Wrocławski, where he met professors, teachers, and students who are fascinated by our beautiful language. Thank you to everyone for preparing such a warm welcome for the Taalunie! Wist je dat de neerlandistiek in Polen de grootste ter wereld is? Onder de indruk van deze statistiek ging Gunther Van Neste, Algemeen Secretaris van de Taalunie , op studiereis naar Polen. Samen met de Ambassade van Nederland hadden we de gelegenheid om de heer Van Neste te vergezellen op de ontmoeting met het Dom Holenderski (Nederlands Huis) in Warschau en de Adam Mickiewicz Universiteit van Poznan, evenals de Universiteit van Wroclaw, waar hij professoren, docenten en studenten ontmoette die gefascineerd zijn door onze prachtige taal. On 7-8 April 2025, European culture ministers met for an informal council of ministers in Warsaw. In the framework of the council, the Flemish Minister of Welfare and Poverty Reduction, Culture, and Equal Opportunities, Caroline Gennez had several bilateral meetings in Warsaw. The minister received a briefing on human, women, and LGBTQI+ rights with Hubert Sobecki from Stowarzyszenie Miłość Nie Wyklucza / Love Does Not Exclude Association and Magdalena Chrzczonowicz from OKO.press. She visited Foundation for Women and Family Planning (FEDERA), and had a meeting with Women’s Strike. Furthermore, she had the chance to visit the brand new Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie | Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Op 7-8 april 2025 kwamen de Europese cultuurministers bijeen voor een informeel ministerraad in Warschau. In het kader van de raad had de Vlaamse minister van Welzijn en Armoedebestrijding, Cultuur en Gelijke Kansen enkele bilaterale ontmoetingen in Warschau. De minister kreeg een briefing over mensenrechten, vrouwenrechten en LGBTQI+ rechten met Hubert Sobecki van Love Does Not Exclude en Magdalena Chrzczonowicz van OKO.press. Ze bezocht FEDERA, de stichting voor Vrouwen en Gezinsplanning, en had een ontmoeting met Women’s Strike. Bovendien had ze de kans om het gloednieuwe Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Warschau te bezoeken. Last week, Professor David Criekemans continued his study and lecture trip! He visited Krakow, recorded a podcast at New Eastern Europe, and gave a lecture on American Foreign Policy under Trump 2.0 at with LSE IDEAS CSEEP at the Jagiellonian University. He wrapped up his trip in Lublin, discussing international relations at UMCS and meeting with Vice Rector Beata Piskorska at Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, where he also delivered a lecture on American Foreign Policy. 🌍🎙️📚   Vorige week zette professor David Criekemans zijn studie- en lezingreis voort! Flemish researcher Ann Bessemans joined the international week on “Trusting Intuition in Today’s Design” at Vilnius College of Design. Prof. Bessemans showcased the innovative READSEARCH.be project, highlighting legibility research and typographic education, a collaboration between UHasselt and Hogeschool PXL. Deputy General Representative Sofie Geerts PhD Geerts joined Prof. David Criekemans on his trip to Riga and Vilnius earlier this week. Prof. Criekemans delivered insightful lectures on the Geopolitics of Energy at the Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskola - Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and Vilniaus universitetas / Vilnius University. They also visited the European Humanities University, where they had a productive meeting with the rector, professors, and students. On March 27th and 28th, the Youth Parliament of Zachodniopomorskie organized the first edition of its Parliament Simulation. Over the two days, 100 young people participated in the project, learning about the workings of parliament and the principles of democracy. 🏛️ Our representation proudly took on the honorary patronage of this project.   Op 27 en 28 maart organiseerde het Jeugdparlement van Zachodniopomorskie de eerste editie van zijn Simulatie Parlement. Tijdens de twee dagen namen 100 jongeren deel aan het project waarin ze leerden over de werking van het parlement en de beginselen van democratie. 🏛️ Onze vertegenwoordiging nam met trots het erepatronaat van dit project op zich.
