Nurturing the next wave of high-growth New Zealand startups

About us

We are an early stage founder community first and foremost. We consist of three parts, a community, a product and growth incubating programme and a fund. Our vision is an even happier New Zealand with a thriving & vibrant startup ecosystem. We commit to founders by helping them lay the foundations for truly high growth companies. We do this by helping them achieve product market fit, crystallize a vision and identify growth engines. We also help with company building (people and funding strategies). Through our programme we connect “been there, done that” operators with the next wave of high-growth New Zealand startups and founders. A product and growth mentor catches up with a startup every two weeks to keep progressing on the journey to minimum lovable product. This takes time, so we expect this relationship to last minimum a year. Our community of founders are awesome. At Phase One, we work hard to nurture an environment that our founders feel comfortable to share, connect and help each other as they learn and achieve so much in pursuit of their missions. We do this through fortnightly expert sessions, social catchups and biweekly office hours. We provide this support pro bono and will invest into the companies that make good progress on those first three steps. We believe that by helping these companies grow, it creates even more opportunity for all New Zealanders. If you are an early stage Kiwi founder (or basically have not hit MLP) - look forward to chatting!

💥 💥 💥 HealthNow has successfully secured $3.4m of venture funding to help organizations modernize their delivery of employee benefits via the HealthNow Mastercard. 💥 💥 💥 It’s taken three years of blood, sweat, and tears to earn our seat at the table of venture-backed growth companies from NZ. This is only the beginning. It’s day one. Our biggest feats are ahead of us. This round was led by Icehouse Ventures - Barnaby Marshall, with additional funding from the The Brand fund - Simon Pound, New Zealand Fintech Fund - Mike Burke Marty Kerr, NZVC - Mark Pavlyukovskyy, Enterprise Angels - Jake Hoffart, Phase One Ventures and a number of amazing high net worth individuals. As with most startup journeys, getting to product market fit was not a straight line. It is only with the ongoing support, trust, and confidence of many external and internal stakeholders that we have been able to get to this point I would like to personally thank my external advisors and prior economic investors who supported us to get to today.  Anna Mowbray, NetX Fund, Daniel Gillespie, Aaron McDonald, Phil Williams, Angel institute of Marlborough, Mark Unwin, Richard Coon, Mike Ridgway, Carl Thompson, Ben Teusse, Matt Rama, Phil Ellison, Shaun Quincey, William Palmer and Erika Palmer, Craig White, Tim Gillespie, Gabe Rijpma, Peter Huljich, Jason Huljich. HealthNow's USA-based support network: Andrew Hoppin, Andy Laken, Christopher Sealey, Josh Thompson, Bryan Sivak There are many individuals not listed above who have supported HealthNow or myself personally over the last three years of HealthNow’s journey and beyond. Every one of you has played a role in getting us to where we are today. To the HealthNow team: Thank you for your continual vote of confidence in me as a leader and in our mission of creating healthier organizations. Joining a mission where the future is unknown and the probability of success are not in our favor takes a significant amount of courage and belief. Tim Boyle, Isabelle Hutcheson, Shravani, Calvin, Sam, Campbell McLean, Felix, Max, Greg, Stuart, David B. Andrew Phillipps and Dave Insull: Talk about threading the needle. Executing a pivot, rebuilding a team, building the v2 product, launching in NZ and AU, and raising capital all in under 10months what a ride it’s been! The sleepless nights, late-night calls on Sundays, and the many hard conversations have been invaluable. The professional development I have experienced with your guidance will support the HealthNow mission for years to come. Following this raise, I look forward eagerly and with anticipation. There are so many companies and end-users that will benefit from our solution. It’s now our responsibility to go forth, get in front of them and communicate our solution.
