  • A huge thank you to Kwanto who continue to show their commitment to supporting those who need it most! As a matching donor for our Annual Appeal for the second year in a row, Kwanto helped double the impact of donations made, reaching even more people in need. Their ongoing support reflects their dedication to humanitarian action, and we’re incredibly grateful to have them by our side. • Red Cross Red Crescent teams continue to provide relief on the ground in Myanmar after the devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake. Ross Farmery from International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC is on the ground in Mandalay, Myanmar helping people impacted by the earthquake. We’ve launched the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal to raise vital funds to help communities affected in the immediate aftermath and on the long road to recovery. Before the earthquake, millions of people in Myanmar needed humanitarian help after years of conflict, poverty, and climate-related disasters. Lack of food, limited access to healthcare, and economic hardship were ongoing challenges. Though the full impact is still unfolding, we know that the earthquake will now amplify existing humanitarian needs in Myanmar. • New Zealand Red Cross shares the outrage of our Red Cross colleagues around the world at the killing of eight medics while on duty in Gaza. The eight employees, with another colleague from Palestine Red Crescent Society, disappeared along with their ambulances when they came under heavy fire in Al-Hashashin in Rafah. After seven days of silence on their fate, eight bodies have been retrieved. Assad Al-Nassasra is still missing. Our Secretary General, Sarah Stuart-Black, says the rules of international humanitarian law are clear. “Civilians, humanitarians, health services – must all be protected.” “We mourn the loss of our colleagues in Gaza and join our Movement in asking: when will this stop? All parties in a conflict must protect humanity.” The tally of Palestine Red Crescent Society volunteers and staff killed is now 30. Six members of David Magen Adom have also been killed. #RedCross

  • Red Cross Red Crescent teams are on the ground working tirelessly to support people affected by the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. Dedicated volunteers and staff have been deployed and are leading the frontline response, rescuing survivors, providing pre-hospital care including delivering first aid, distributing emergency shelter materials and reconnecting families. We have launched an emergency appeal to support people affected by the earthquake. Donations raised will support the life-saving efforts of Red Cross Red Crescent teams through the response and recovery. Your support is vital at this time. The situation is urgent. If you can, please donate today: https://lnkd.in/gA-2HiV2 Marie Manrique, of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, gave an update on situation on the ground overnight Myanmar time. #RedCross #NZRedCross #MyanmarEarthquake

  • We partner with Red Cross National Societies to support people in 12 countries across the Pacific. Each year we send international delegates to provide first aid materials and to train instructors. We also help to train people in water and sanitation, health, and disaster management. When disaster strikes, we’re ready to respond. We store relief items in depots across the Pacific so critical items can be distributed quickly after a disaster. We have an IT and T Emergency Response Unit which travels to disaster-affected areas to restore communication systems. We also support core admin through our Pacific Partner Programme. We’re so grateful to our donors and supporters for making our work possible.
