About us

The New Zealand Institute of International Affairs (NZIIA) promotes discussion and understanding of international issues and emerging trends, particularly as they relate to New Zealand. Founded in 1934 by former Prime Minister Walter Nash, the Institute has long attracted people who are, or have been, directly involved in running New Zealand's external relations. Today there are around 10 branches throughout New Zealand and the Wellington Branch is the largest. The Wellington Branch is fortunate in being in the same city as the Institute's National Office which organises speakers, forums, hosts book launches and round table discussions. Speakers include diplomats, politicians, academics, members of the Defence Forces, members of the press and NGOs amongst others. Membership of the NZIIA includes subscription to the ‘New Zealand International Review’, the only periodical in New Zealand entirely devoted to international affairs. The prestigious journal, published by The Institute, features articles on issues of contemporary international significance and how they relate to New Zealand. If you want to join the Wellington Branch and receive notifications of up-coming events, along with a subscription to the New Zealand International Review, then please fill in the membership form via the following link: https://forms.gle/xNB22euxHu8pHfhP8
