Tonight NZIIA Wellington hosted a insightful panel on “Celebrating the contribution of Honorary Consuls”! NZIIA was delighted to hear from Professor Carmen Dalli MNZM (Hon Consul of Malta 🇲🇹 and Dean of the Wellington Consular Corps), Peter Kiely ONZM Consul of the Slovak Republic 🇸🇰) and Gloriana Quiros Venegas (Hon Consul of Costa Rica 🇨🇷). Attendees learned valuable insights about the life of Honorary Consuls and the vital role they play in representing foreign governments.

Last week, the NZIIA Wellington branch hosted Dr Karam Shaar Shaar, a renowned Syrian expert discussing “Post-Assad Syria: Implications for the Country and the Middle East”. Dr Shaar provided his observations after returning to Syria for the first time in 13 years and thoughts on the future of Syria. Last week NZIIA Wellington Branch was thrilled to host our Environmental Diplomacy Symposium 2025 at Zealandia’s eco-sanctuary! 🌱🌏 The event brought together diplomats, academics, high school and tertiary students, and members of the Wellington community to hear global strategies around addressing climate change, advancing sustainability, and promoting conservation and biodiversity. We are extremely grateful to all of our moderators and speakers for their contributions to the panels, and to HE Harinder Sidhu, the Australian High Commissioner for delivering the Symposium’s keynote address.
