Thanks to all who came to our Queenstown seminar this week, where Partner Fiona McMillan teamed up with Kim Arnold from Brannigans to discuss all things recruitment. The practical, no-nonsense seminar looked at how to navigate New Zealand’s recruitment laws and refine hiring practices, and we hope the attendees had as much fun as our presenters did. All proceeds are being donated to our hosts, Te Atamira. You can read more about our Workplace Law expertise here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gvvgiT3K

About 20,000 people watched this year’s Auckland Rainbow Parade along Ponsonby Road and we were proud to call ourselves supporters that helped to make it happen. Lane Neave sponsored this year’s celebration that featured more than 3,000 participants, according to the recently released event report. Ultimately, the parade made a powerful statement that our LGBTQIA+ community deserves to celebrate its existence with joy, courage and unity. Like all countries, Aotearoa faces challenges of division and misinformation, and Auckland’s annual parade is a great reflection of the city's commitment to inclusion – something we feel strongly about here at Lane Neave. Property development is now an acceptable investment under the refined Active Investor Plus Visa – meaning there are huge, unrecognised benefits for New Zealand’s property sector. Overseas investors can now either invest equity directly in New Zealand property, or through a managed fund dedicated to property development or funding. This funding opportunity is the first of its kind and we are already seeing huge interest. As the leading national law firm in this space, we are uniquely positioned to assist anyone involved in developing or planning a project who seeks to attract foreign investment under this visa programme. 👉 Read more: https://bit.ly/42caEIZ Chris Anderson Paige Sullivan MInstD MNZLS New Zealand Government

A recent case serves as a reminder that claims under the Privacy Act 2020 could have significant consequences for employers – in this case to the tune of $30,000. In Cummings v KAM Transport Limited [2025] NZHRRT 8, the Human Rights Review Tribunal determined that an employer breached an employee’s privacy and that this caused the employee humiliation and a loss of dignity.
