  • ✅ Eco-Certifications That Actually Mean Something Not all “green” packaging is created equal. To avoid falling for greenwashing, it’s important to look for legit certifications that back up sustainability claims: 🌱 BPI Certified Compostable (U.S.) – Recognised third-party certification 🌱 TÜV Austria OK Compost (Europe) – Certifies for industrial and home compostability 🌱 Australasian Bioplastics Association (Australia/NZ) – Certifies for industrial and home compostability If the packaging doesn’t have one of these labels, proceed with caution. Just because it looks eco-friendly doesn’t mean it will break down properly—or safely. When it comes to compostable packaging, proof matters. 🔗Read more about Biodegradable and Compostable packaging: https://lnkd.in/g3tX8v-W #SustainablePackaging #Compostable #EcoCertifications #Greenwashing #CircularEconomy #BPI #TUVAustria #AustralasianBioplastics #EcoFriendly #Sustainability #PackagingTips

  • 🥃 Is it better than tin? Yes. But do we still need it? James Cropper and Bruichladdich Distillery have teamed up to launch a recyclable moulded pulp wrap for their Luxury Redefined whisky range — ditching the traditional tin for a lightweight, glue-free, fibre-based solution. From a sustainability standpoint, it’s clearly a step forward. ✅ Made from renewable materials ✅ Fully recyclable in household streams ✅ Designed without glue ✅ Lower emissions than tin in production and transport It ticks a lot of boxes — and let’s be honest, it does look great. The embossing, the closure clasp, the attention to detail — it’s premium, no doubt. But it also raises a bigger question: 👉 Is secondary packaging like this necessary at all? As we push toward more circular, low-waste systems, it’s worth asking whether beautifully crafted, single-use packaging (even when recyclable) aligns with that future. Can luxury be redefined without the need for extra material at all? Still, it’s encouraging to see brands like Bruichladdich actively phasing out tin and exploring better alternatives. Progress often happens one layer at a time. Curious to hear your thoughts: Can luxury and minimalism co-exist in the world of packaging? #Sustainability #PackagingDesign #CircularEconomy #JamesCropper #Bruichladdich #LuxuryRedefined #EcoDesign #RecyclablePackaging #LessIsMore

  • ♻️ Biodegradable vs. Compostable—What’s the Difference? You’ve seen the labels—biodegradable, compostable, eco-friendly—but do they all mean the same thing? Not quite. 🧪 Biodegradable = Breaks down naturally (but may leave residue) 🌿 Compostable = Breaks down into nutrient-rich compost (no toxins, needs specific conditions) 👉 All compostables are biodegradable, but not all biodegradables are compostable! The science is real, but proper disposal and composting infrastructure are key. Look for trusted certifications like BPI or TÜV Austria—and when in doubt, reuse comes out on top. 🔗Read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/g3tX8v-W #SustainablePackaging #Biodegradable #Compostable #EcoFriendly #GreenBusiness #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

  • 🌊 Did You Know? It’s estimated that 75 to 199 million tons of plastic are currently polluting our oceans. That’s a staggering amount — threatening marine life, ecosystems, and even the food chain we rely on. Every small action counts. Let’s keep working toward sustainable solutions and reducing plastic waste wherever we can. ♻️🌍 #Sustainability #PlasticPollution #EcoFriendly #OceanConservation #DidYouKnow #SustainablePackaging

  • 🤔 Will people actually Borrow a Cup instead of using single-use? Huskee has just launched Borrow by Huskee — a new system that lets people borrow a reusable cup from participating cafés and return it later (within 14 days) via café drop-off or a high-tech SmartBin. It’s free to use, tracks cup usage through an app, and has a full cleaning and closed-loop system in place. On paper? It sounds brilliant. No more “oops, I forgot my cup” moments. Just borrow, sip, return. But I keep coming back to this: 👉 Will people actually use it? 👉 Will they return the cups? 👉 Is it scalable beyond the early adopters who already care about sustainability? The system does tackle real barriers — forgetfulness, convenience, hygiene — and it's great to see tech being used to track impact (like landfill diversion and carbon savings). The SmartBin idea is also super clever — only accepting designated Huskee cups to avoid contamination. But as with any reuse system, success will come down to human behaviour. Will people actually return the cups? Will venues stick with it long term? I really hope this works — we desperately need scalable, low-waste alternatives to single-use. I’d love to see more cafés take a chance on it, and more consumers treat “borrowing a cup” as normal as ordering a coffee. What do you think — is this the kind of reuse system we’ve been waiting for? Would you borrow a cup? #Sustainability #Reuse #CircularEconomy #BorrowByHuskee #Huskee #BehaviourChange #Innovation #CoffeeCulture

  • 📦 Packaging Minimization: Less Is More Ever bought a product in a box that’s waaay too big, with a fake bottom or thick double walls? That’s exactly what the EU wants to eliminate. By January 2030, packaging must be: • Minimized in size and weight • Optimized for function, not appearance • Free from "illusion packaging" that exaggerates product size This is about cutting excess, improving transparency, and reducing shipping waste — a win-win for businesses and consumers. 🔗Read more on the EU PPRW here: https://lnkd.in/gppGXxnF #EU #PPRW #Sustainability #Minization #LessIsMore #Packaging

  • Big changes are coming for anyone exporting to the EU — especially when it comes to packaging 📦 The European Union’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which came into effect on February 11, 2025, is all about driving sustainable packaging practices. From bans on single-use plastics to mandatory compostability and recyclability standards, here's how it affects New Zealand exporters — and what you can do about it. 🔗Read about it here - https://lnkd.in/gppGXxnF #EU #PPRW #Sustainability #Regulations #Exports

  • 🌍 World Health Day 2025: Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures 👶❤️ On 7 April 2025, World Health Day will launch a year-long global campaign focused on maternal and newborn health. The theme, Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures, is a call to action: urging governments and health systems to prioritise the health and well-being of women and their babies — not just during birth, but long after. The need is urgent. Each year: 🔹 Nearly 300,000 women lose their lives due to pregnancy or childbirth. 🔹 Over 2 million newborns die within their first month. 🔹 Another 2 million are stillborn. That’s 1 preventable death every 7 seconds. 🚨 At current rates, 4 out of 5 countries are off track to meet maternal survival targets by 2030. We must do better. This campaign will not only raise awareness, but share vital information to support healthy pregnancies, safe births, and better postnatal care. It will also shine a light on the need for comprehensive, high-quality care that includes mental health support, noncommunicable disease management, and access to family planning. Every woman and every baby deserves the chance to survive — and thrive. 💚 #WorldHealthDay #HealthyBeginnings #MaternalHealth #NewbornCare #HopefulFutures #GlobalHealth #WomensHealth #PostnatalCare #HealthEquity #EveryLifeMatters
