I had a great time sitting down with Sean Sportun, SMVol, ICPS, SAS-AP® as we discussed the state of Organized Retail Crime in Canada and how Toronto Crime Stoppers is working to rally the community around this growing problem. Retailers and Law Enforcement play a huge part in this solution. However, bringing in the community impacted really ties together the importance of collaboration. Retailers may pronounce “tomato” differently, but the crime challenges sound remarkably familiar on both sides of the pond. It was great connecting with so many retail leaders yesterday at the Retail Technology Show at ExCeL London with the Auror UK & Europe team. Whether it’s violent incidents, rising ORC, or the burden on store teams, the themes we heard were consistent. One thing that stood out was how many retailers are still relying on handwritten logbooks to capture crime in store. It’s a reminder that while the challenges are complex, the tools haven’t always kept pace. Whether you’re in Newcastle or New York, the goal is the same: give in-store teams the tools to stay safe and respond confidently, and give loss prevention leaders the insights they need to drive real change. Appreciate the conversations, and excited about the work ahead.

Another amazing week!!! I did what I absolutely love doing best, getting out and about with our amazing team to meet with retailers focused on stopping violence and crime! I learnt that weapon usage in retail crime is up 66% year-on-year in Australia, and a big rise where blades and knives are involved - we have to stop this awful trend! This week I was in Melbourne, meeting with leaders from some of the most iconic brands, who are interested in joining the fight against retail crime and violence! I love speaking to passionate leaders, who share the same mission and purpose as we do - great foundations for a genuine and long-lasting partnership. It is such a privilege to get to do what I do! A huge thank you to Sean D. G. Singh, Alana Tozer, and Brett Farley for hosting me over the last few days - can’t wait to get to Sydney next week to do more of the same! Great first day at #RTS2025 - some incredible technology and most notable for me was Auror - amazing to see their impact on theft and hopefully the positive impact that is having on colleagues safety and wellbeing. Great session with Prerana Issar from Sainsbury's and listening to how they support their colleagues. And it was great to chat to so many people about the Retail Trust and how we can use data, insights and AI to make retail a happy, thriving and innovative place to work! More tomorrow... If you're going come and listen to Tim Walpole, Andrew Jurd and I speak at 11am on how generative AI can create a happier and more productive workforce!

Organized retail crime isn’t just a US problem. According to recent research, it’s also a $9B problem in Canada. In his recent conversation with Jon Briegel at the Retail Secure Conference, chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers Sean Sportun, SMVol, ICPS, SAS-AP®, identified a few strategies to combat ORC: - Collaborate with other retailers - Work closely with law enforcement where appropriate - Make the surrounding community aware Fortunately, Auror Collaborate brings essential conversations into the secure Investigate module, making it easy to responsibly share case details on joint investigations. 🤝 Check out the latest episode of The Intel to better understand the state of ORC in Canada, and how two retail crime experts are working to solve it: https://lnkd.in/ggYckkG7 #retailcrime #canada

Organized Retail Crime is becoming more violent, more organized, and more costly for retailers. Auror customers are showing what’s possible when you shift from reactive reporting to connected intelligence. A global retailer using Auror identified that 10 percent of offenders were responsible for 94 percent of their loss. With that visibility, they prevented $126 million in loss and returned 26 million items to shelves in one year. A pharmacy chain reduced shrink by 17 percent and supported 14 arrest warrants by working directly with law enforcement through the platform. An apparel retailer cut theft by 23 percent in six months after replacing spreadsheets with real-time intel and automated case building. This is what happens when teams can connect the dots across stores, cities, and states. The result is safer stores, stronger teams, and less crime. If you’re exploring smarter ways to prevent ORC and protect your stores, let’s talk!
