EU H2020 project envisions delivering scalable, sustainable and viable energy-positive and zero-carbon GBNs.
Om oss
The PROBONO project envisions establishing a people-focused European construction industry, by working in harmony with the broader community of stakeholders, to deliver scalable, sustainable, and viable energy-positive and zero-carbon Green Buildings and Neighbourhoods (GBN). The objective of the project is to produce validated solutions for the design, construction, and operation of zero-emission and positive-energy buildings in sustainable green neighbourhoods. For achieving this vision and objective, PRO BONO will deliver five GBN Transition Acceleration Enablers deployed in six high-impact and people-focused Living Labs (LLs) across six EU states. These GBN Living Labs will include two municipality-driven large-scale demonstrators (Madrid and Dublin) and four living labs representing business/owner promoters of the GBN transition (Porto, Brussels, Aarhus, Prague). The project receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 101037075.

🌿📍ProbonoH2020 at #BCConf2025 in Lisbon! We were thrilled to present our work at the Behaviour Change Conference 2025 (April 1–3), organised by the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change 🧠✨ Our amazing partners, Tamara Hajdu from Smart Innovation Norway and Sidsel Bruun, showcased the results of the CERNA assessment from our Dublin Living Lab! 🖼️👏 🔍 The research explored social norms around climate change and energy use, revealing a striking insight: - Citizens often underestimate how much others support green policies — a misperception that can hold back climate action. 💭 - Our engaging discussions at the conference focused on how these findings can shape future behaviour change interventions — paving the way for a more informed, connected, and sustainable society 💡♻️ - The CERNA Assessment enables us to uncover these hidden social dynamics and design effective, citizen-focused strategies in our Green Building Neighbourhoods 🌱🏘️ 📢 Stay tuned for more updates from our six Living Labs as we continue to co-create Green Building Neighbourhoods across Europe! From Lisbon with insights! ✨🌍 Smart Innovation Norway had the pleasure of being part of the Behaviour Change Conference 2025 🇵🇹, organised by the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change 📅 (April 1–3) — a global gathering of experts exploring how behavioural science is evolving in the age of AI 🤖🧠 📌 Our poster — a collaboration between the ProbonoH2020 and Nemonoor projects — presented an innovative approach to how social psychological research can be integrated into AI-augmented Digital Twins 🧩🏙️ Why does it matter? 💡 Because decision-makers often underestimate local support for climate action 🌱❗️ Our research shows how integrating social norms, knowledge, and attitudes into AI interfaces can help correct these biases — enabling more inclusive, localised, and effective decision-making for climate-resilient urban planning 🏘️🔍⚡ 🔁 This work goes beyond state-of-the-art — pushing Digital Twin tech to be smarter and more human-centred 💬📊 🤝 It was an inspiring space to connect with behavioural science enthusiasts from around the world, discuss the future of AI & decision-making, and spotlight Norway’s contributions to sustainable, people-focused innovation 🇳🇴💚 🎯 Curious about how behavioural data and AI can shape greener cities and better public services? Let’s connect! #SmartInnovationNorway #BCConf2025 #AIforGood #DigitalTwins #BehaviouralScience #Sustainability #GreenBuildingNeighbourhoods #PROBONOproject #Nemonoor #DigitalTransformation #SocialInnovation

🚀 Exciting News from the ProbonoH2020 Project! 🏙️ We're thrilled to announce the development of a European standardization document (CWA – CEN Workshop Agreement) building on our excellent PROBONO project results. This CWA, titled “Building Information Modelling – Integration of Architectural Design Intentions for Creating Social Values,” aims to highlight the role human-centred social values play in the built environment—values such as curiosity, comfort, and a sense of belonging. Recognizing these values is essential for the proper functioning of buildings. Our objective is to document these design intentions clearly and abstractly, ensuring they are accessible to a broader range of stakeholders and enabling new kinds of analyses. Architects design and arrange products in buildings to evoke specific social values. By accurately capturing these design arguments—decisions on product placements and the resulting occupant experiences—we can integrate these into Building Information Modelling (BIM). 📅 Save the Date! Our kick-off meeting is remotely scheduled for 28 April 2025 from 13:00 to 16:00 (CEST) 👉 https://lnkd.in/dHzAtGRP More information can be found on the CEN website 👉 https://lnkd.in/dzTmCkpY Join us in shaping the future of sustainable and socially conscious built environments through standardization! 🌿💡 #ProbonoH2020 #BuiltEnvironment #SocialValue #BIM #HumanCentredDesign #SustainableBuildings #Standardisation #SmartCities DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e. New ways to plan better cities — together! 🤝🌿 Have you ever been in an urban planning meeting where it felt like everyone was speaking a different language? 🚲 The transport expert 🏘️ The housing developer 🌳 The environmental advocate 👥 The community rep They all bring valuable insights, but aligning visions? Not so easy. 💡 That’s where the Placemaking Fresk comes in. Developed by the ProbonoH2020 project partners, Luc Jonveaux, Tamara Hajdu and Sidsel Bruun, this collaborative tool transforms abstract sustainability frameworks (ISO 37101) into an interactive, visual card game. 🃏✨ 🎯 What it does: ✔️ Builds a common language across sectors ✔️ Helps participants map urban sustainability visually ✔️ Sparks cross-sector dialogue & systems thinking ✔️ Turns theory into practical, local strategies Whether you’re an urban planner, sustainability expert, academic, or community advocate — we’d love to connect and explore how the Placemaking Fresk could support your work. 🌍 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/d74FsCc9 #UrbanSustainability #PlacemakingFresk #SmartCities #ISO37101 #CoCreation #CityPlanning #SustainabilityTools #PROBONOproject #HorizonEU

🎯 AI Action Summit: Harnessing AI for Sustainable Cities & Communities The ProbonoH2020 project, represented by Luc Jonveaux, recently attended the AI Action Summit workshop on "AI and Standardisation of Sustainable Cities" organized by AFNOR Group and Cerema on February 11, 2025, at the Ministères Aménagement du territoire Transition écologique 🇫🇷 🌍 The event gathered international experts from the European Commission, OECD - OCDE, United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), and countries including Germany, Brazil, China, and the UK to explore one vital question: How can AI drive urban sustainability – ethically and at scale? 🔍 Key takeaways: 📘 Revision of ISO 37101 and creation of IEC-ISO JTC4 to support AI in smart cities 🐝 Use of AI in biodiversity, 15-min city planning & climate adaptation 💡 Case studies: - Stockholm’s AI energy advisor - Barcelona’s climate modelling - Greater Paris CO2-reducing traffic flow AI 🧠 Digital twins + data interoperability = critical tools for smart decision-making ✅ PROBONO presented its early work combining AI and standard tools for Green Building Neighbourhoods [ https://lnkd.in/d8CnJbcV ] 📢 The consensus: AI has powerful potential to align cities with the UN SDGs — but this must be backed by robust standards, ethical governance, and citizen-focused design. Let’s build AI that serves people and the planet 🌱🤖 Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/diCxf4PH #AI #SmartCities #Sustainability #Standardization #UrbanPlanning #AIforGood #SDGs #ISO37101
