From Vattenfall’s old wind turbine blades ➡️ to our production facilities in Høyanger for carbon fiber harvesting ➡️ to Endre Hals and his EVI Ski workshop in Oppdal ➡️ and back again to Vattenfall and the ski slopes in Åre. This is a fantastic example of recycling in an industrial setting, and just a small taste of what’s to come and the possibilities that lie in circular solutions for wind turbines at the end of their lifespan ♻️ Thanks for the great post Gustav Frid! 🌟 What a weekend! 🌟 I am sure some of you have the experience of working on something for a very long time, but it is not as common to also see the result. For me, this weekend was such a moment. For several years, I have been working on ways to use old wind turbine blades in new products. With the skis, we show that recycled materials, carbon fibers from a wind turbine blade, are a perfect material to use to make a strong and fun sports product. 🎿 I do not see skis as the only solution. However, as more wind turbines reach end of life, it is important to find innovative and circular solutions, try them out, and share the learnings. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to inspire other stakeholders and educate interested parties on the topic of circularity. 🌍♻️ I hope that the work we do at Vattenfall and in particular at Business Area Wind will spur innovation, development of circular business models, and contribute to a future where we can see ourselves in a much more resource-efficient society. 🌱 Thanks to everyone who made this possible, for the collaboration and all the great discussions in Åre. 🙏 Emil Johansson Robert Portier Annika Ramsköld Karin Lago Nidsjö Heidi Stenström Emma Crépin Gjenkraft AS Marcin Rusin Arvid Lønne SkiStar AB #Evi

What a week it’s been for Gjenkraft! Our participation in #JECWorld2025 went as well as it possibly could. We had lots of great conversations and made many new acquaintances. The future of recycled composite materials is bright, and it’s energizing and inspiring to meet fellow visionaries who are building the future with us. We’ve also experienced an incredible buzz over the past few days surrounding our new line of skis made from recycled wind turbine blades, produced in collaboration with EVI Ski and #Vattenfall. The project has received massive media attention, and today, visitors at the World Cup Women’s Slalom competition in Åre had the chance to test these skis for themselves. It’s amazing to see the materials we produce put to good use and to witness the excitement that projects like this generate. You can read more about the collaboration on https://lnkd.in/e4m-FfbU
We’re working with composite recycling company Gjenkraft and Norwegian ski maker Endre Hals, founder of EVI Ski, to produce skis with recycled materials from wind turbine blades that have reached the end of their operational life. Through a thorough process, the high-quality carbon fibres found in the blades are modified to fit the complex construction of skis. EVI Ski designs skis that can be repaired, extending their use beyond what’s possible with conventional skis. Instead of being discarded, worn-down or broken skis can be repressed and used again. Our work with Gjenkraft and EVI Ski is one example of how we’re extending the lifetime of our materials. This week, we are attending #JECWorld2025, the premier international trade show dedicated to composite materials and their applications. As part of the EuCIA REFRESH stand, we are engaging in fruitful discussions on advancing innovative solutions for recycling glass fiber-reinforced composites from decommissioned wind turbine blades, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy. We have also brought along skis made by EVI ski, crafted using carbon extracted from discarded turbine blades. In collaboration with EVI ski and #Vattenfall, we have developed 15 pairs of skis for testing purposes — demonstrating the many potential applications of recycled glass fibers from wind turbine blades. The event features over 1,350 exhibitors and welcomes around 45,000 professionals from more than 100 countries. If you're attending JEC World, come by and say hello! #REFRESH #windenergy #recycling

Gjenkraft AS and Bergen Spesial Transport AS had the pleasure of hosting politicians from Vestland, including Mayor Jon Askeland at our stand at WindEnergy Hamburg 2024. 🌍💨 We were thrilled to share our collaboration plans and discuss expanding our business in recycling wind turbines. 🌱♻️ #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Recycling #GreenTech #WindTurbines #CircularEconomy #Vestland #CleanEnergy #OffshoreWind

Gjenkraft AS are thrilled to announce the signing of a framework agreement with Bergen Spesial Transport AS for the sustainable recycling of wind turbine blades. From now on, Bergen Spesial Transport AS will deliver all their wind blade waste for recycling at our facility. This significant milestone helps establish a value chain in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, securing blade feedstock for the next three years. Our ambitions lead us to scale our production in Høyanger, aiming for a capacity of 1000 tons per year by 2025 with new machinery. This will enable Bergen Spesial Transport AS to provide only sustainable solutions for wind blades, eliminating landfill and incineration options. We are excited to take this major step forward in our mission to create a green future. #Sustainability #WindTurbineRecycling #Innovation #Gjenkraft

Last week was truly special for us as we opened the doors of our plant in Høyanger to present our collaborative efforts with Bergen Spesial Transport AS, Grøn region Vestland, Fornybar Norge, Kunnskapsparken Vestland AS, Innovasjon Norge, Leira Næringspark and Høyanger kommune. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our innovative solutions and production facilities for the sustainable recycling of wind turbine blades. We were especially honored to have former Oil and Energy Minister Åslaug Marie Haga, now with Renewable Norway, join us to discuss the future of recycling technologies. The event underscored our commitment to driving the sustainable energy transition and highlighted the exciting developments ahead. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey and warmly invite investors to join us in growing this industry in Vestland and Høyanger. By supporting the development of our new plant, you can be part of the sustainable energy future we are building together. #Sustainability #WindTurbineRecycling #Innovation #GreenEnergy #Gjenkraft
