💚With over 80,000+ internationals, Rotterdam continues to attract global talent. But why do they choose our city? "Many expats choose Rotterdam deliberately. 💚 Hofplein’s green makeover begins today! Just yesterday, thousands of runners crossed the finish line at the Rotterdam Marathon, and today marks another important milestone as the phase 1 of the Hofplein redevelopment kicks off. Hofplein, one of Rotterdam’s most iconic squares, is transforming into a vibrant, green urban space that prioritizes people and sustainability. The redesigned square will feature 150 new trees, lush greenery, and inviting seating areas, while the iconic fountain remains its centerpiece. A water storage system beneath the square will collect 1,200 m³ of water to sustain the greenery during dry periods. The project will proceed in phases, with the first one running from today until September 19, 2025. ⚓️🌍 Strengthening maritime partnerships with Maharashtra in Rotterdam This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Minister Nitesh Narayan Rane, Ports and Fisheries Minister of Maharashtra, India, and his esteemed delegation to Rotterdam. Hosted at City Hall by Gemeente Rotterdam, this visit was an important step in deepening international collaboration in the maritime sector. Minister Rane’s study tour to the Netherlands focuses on sustainable shipping practices and global partnerships, with Rotterdam, Europe’s leading maritime capital, as a key destination. During his visit, we explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, innovation, and investment in green maritime solutions, further strengthening ties between Maharashtra and the Netherlands. 🚢 Rotterdam, first Dutch city to power cruise ships with shore power! Rotterdam has taken a major step towards cleaner air and reduced noise pollution by becoming the first Dutch city to connect sea cruise ships to shore power. This week, the Cruise Port Shore Power installation was inaugurated at the Holland Amerikakade by Alderman Robert Simons and Port of Rotterdam CEO Boudewijn Siemons. This initiative puts Rotterdam ahead of European regulations requiring cruise ships to use shore power by 2030. Alderman Simons emphasized its impact: “By adopting shore power, we improve air quality, reduce noise, and make our port more sustainable while maintaining its economic strength.” A collaboration between the Gemeente Rotterdam, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, and Cruise Port Rotterdam, the project features a flexible 230-meter cable duct and a Maas-cooled system, ensuring efficiency. By 2025, three-quarters of cruise ships in Rotterdam are expected to connect, with a generator ban taking effect in 2027.
