𝐒𝐮𝐧'𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭, 𝐁𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭! ☀️ Spring is in the air — and we’re sending sunny, positive vibes from LeydenJar to you all! Last week, we kicked off the new season in the most Dutch way possible — by hopping on our bikes and riding through stunning tulip fields together. It was a great way to get outside, enjoy the colors of the season, and spend time with our fantastic LeydenJar team in rows upon rows of tulips, crocuses and daffodils 🌷🪻. With colleagues from many different countries and backgrounds, it’s always fun to share a bit of Dutch culture together. Now we’re recharged and ready for the exciting months ahead. From all of us, we wish you a happy, colorful, and energetic spring and maybe a stroopwafel or two along the way! #TeamLeydenJar #SpringVibes #TulipRide

𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 - 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 Yes, it’s the interaction between the anode (-) and cathode (+) that creates the electrochemistry. Same thing for the deep tech venture called LeydenJar that is working on bringing ultra high energy density in battery cells, enabling a new wave of product innovation, from AI enabled consumer electronic devices to e-flight and e-mobility. Just one day before International Women’s day, a good moment to reflect on diversity, inclusion and the chemistry it creates. Some views from the managing board of LeydenJar, consisting of Christiane van der Wateren (CFO) and Christian Rood (CEO). Christiane: That means it takes every talent and perspective to first deal with the unknown unknowns of new technology and later the persistence and long-term view to industrialize and bring profitable products to market. I think especially such radical innovation requires an open mind, inviting attitude and the diversity of talents that are challenged to deliver on stretched goals. The Netherlands has long been a place in which such tolerant values are cherished and that has been important for creating its wealth. For LeydenJar we want to cherish those values as well and create that chemistry of diversity that leads to exceptional results. Christian: the idea that technology is more a domain for men is so outdated. There are more outdated ideas about diversity and inclusion that need to be realized. Some of that has to do with bias of our upbringing. Actively realizing that helps to create an exceptional group of people (we like to call them the Jar full of gems) that can address the challenges of a battery tech venture, whether it is to circumvent dogma of how battery tech works, or by fostering a culture in which radical candor, openness and personal impact is high. It needs some active work from every deep tech venturer to realize this and to create a better balance. International Women’s Day is a helpful reminder of doing that work required to create more balance leading to more electrochemistry in the company! We dedicate this International Women’s Day to honour what the women in the company bring to the table, while acknowledging hard-work to be done to achieve this better balance, internally as well as in the industry. Building a global deep tech business needs a diverse & inclusive pool of talent, that together create the chemistry to innovate, and to industrialize.

𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬: 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 Using pure silicon anodes promises significant improvements in the energy density of lithium-ion batteries. This high energy density opens the doors for next-generation electronics that demand small and high-performance batteries. However, silicon tends to swell and break during battery charge and discharge, quickly degrading the battery's performance. To use these batteries consecutively, a high amount of pressure is commonly applied during its complete lifetime. LeydenJar CEO Christian Rood on this topic: "A battery with silicon anodes would need the pressure of an elephant standing on top of it to function properly. This limits the applicability of silicon anodes in many applications and particularly in consumer electronic devices, such as laptops and wearables that cannot operate well under applied pressure, let alone the pressure of an elephant (1MPa).” LeydenJar mitigates this pressure problem through its unique silicon anode material produced in its PECVD production process. The porous silicon, which is break-proof during cycling, needs no externally applied pressure for its operations. LeydenJar has been able to showcase performance of 500 cycles to 80% capacity retention without pressure in a lithium-ion battery containing this silicon anode. Do you want to learn more about the elephant? Read our recent press release on the topic: https://lnkd.in/exZQ9Zsb
