✒️ New comment on preparations for T+1 ✒️ FIA EPTA has responded to ESMA's Refit consultation on #settlement discipline. We support the intention of the proposed amendments to improve the RTS under #CSDR and enable faster settlement. The rules should ensure that pre-settlement matching and allocation are completed as soon as practical. Our response also calls for mandatory use of electronic and machine-readable formats for written allocations and confirmations, to allow for straight-through processing. STP will be crucial for a smooth transition to T+1. Read more in our full response, attached here. Thanks to my great panelists for their insights at #FOW’s #TradingAmsterdam in a lively panel on Innovations in Global Futures & Options Markets, with Steven Jorgensen, Ron Hochman, Dr. Randolf Roth and Jop Houwen. It was definitely timely amid geopolitical challenges and, in Europe, a heightened focus on our economic competitiveness – especially as market growth here has lagged behind the Americas and Asia. But the panel had some ideas to get the engine running:   ⚗️ Innovation - Investment in market tech and capabilities remains crucial. Traders and investors increasingly expect expanded trading hours – a challenge not just for exchanges, but for everyone in the ecosystem that will require new approaches to operational risk management.   🏛️ Market structure keeps evolving - With discussions circling around how to have more OTC move into listed trading and adapt the product offering to meet the needs of both end users and liquidity providers, and getting those products to market faster.   🏷️ Unlocking listed derivatives markets for retail - There’s a lot of underused potential, with retail investors demanding more European-focused products – but at the same time being unduly constrained by some of the regulatory requirements to manage their investment risk through listed derivatives. We need a lot more investor education for retail participants, but this should go hand in hand with a more sensible investor protection framework. U.S. and Asian markets have led the way here, but there’s no reason why Europe couldn’t catch up – and soon!

As always, it's great to be back at #FOW's #TradingAmsterdam, now already in its 15th anniversary edition! I was there for year one (and many times since) -- it's still a great forum for dialogue on the latest trends in European listed #derivatives markets. Looking forward also to be moderating a panel on a topic that will be central to many conversations: Insights and Innovations in Global Futures & Options Markets, with Steven Jorgensen, Ron Hochman, Dr. Randolf Roth and Jop Houwen. Should be fun!

Many here know him from his journalism on financial services at Bloomberg (in DC and Brussels), MLex and Politico, as well as his consulting work advising on comms and policy in a variety of sectors. Before enjoying drinks and canapés together with industry partners and friends, a great conversation about the Financial Conduct Authority’s new transparency regime for #bonds and implications for UK #growth and #competiveness, with thoughtful contributions from Peter Whitaker, Jennifer Keser and Fabio Braga, CFA, ably and humorously moderated by Peter Bevan. A wonderful evening!
