  • Last Tuesday we hosted the AI in ClimateTech Panel. We are excited that over 50 founders, tech leads, and investors joined from more than 40 different energy companies. Everyone's enthusiasm and energy turned the evening into a valuable moment to share ideas, have in depth discussions, and network with peers that are working daily on the challenges of the energy transition.   A special thanks to the panel members: - Florian Arndt (founder of PowerHive) who shared how technology can enable SMEs to trade on multiple energy markets, like larger organisations do. - Luc Uitdewilligen (Product Lead of Ampowr) who shared how they use data & AI to gain value from batteries, whilst ensuring reliability and safety. - Ellissa Verseput (Data & ML manager of Sympower) who shared how ML forecasting and optimization algorithms are being used to steer renewable assets. And how to scale that over different countries and regions.    If you want to be involved in the next AI in ClimateTech edition, either as a panel member or simply to join: feel free to reach out to Bart Maassen.   Stay tuned!

  • 🌊 How can AI help protect coastal ecosystems and combat climate change?   Coastal ecosystems like seagrass meadows store #carbon up to 35x more efficiently than forests, making them critical in the fight against climate change. Yet, detailed data on these ecosystems remains scarce. PlanBlue addresses this by combining advanced imaging and machine learning to map and analyze the seafloor, providing crucial insights for the blue carbon market.   Since 2024, PlanBlue has expanded its operations from diver-led campaigns to mapping 4,000 km of coastline with autonomous underwater vehicles. To support this ambitious goal, PlanBlue partnered with Enjins to enhance scalability and streamline their processes.   Here’s how we supported their mission: 🔹 Enhanced scalability: We expanded their data processing pipelines to handle higher volumes while ensuring stability and reliability across projects. 🔹 Streamlined processes: We introduced automated triggers to replace manual processes, enabling faster and error-free workflows. 🔹 Strengthened collaboration: We optimised their MLOps setup to allow the team to efficiently build, test, and maintain models as they grow.   Over the course of four months, we worked closely with PlanBlue’s team and their CTO Guy Rigot to ensure the system was future-proof and aligned with their in-house capabilities. This collaboration empowers PlanBlue to scale their operations and continue providing vital insights to protect coastal ecosystems and combat climate change.   Curious about how AI is transforming sustainability efforts? 🛰️ AI vs. Wildfires & Biodiversity loss 🌍🌱   Last night at the AI in ClimateTech – Berlin C-Level Meetup 🚀 at the Merantix AI Campus, we brought together some of the most exciting companies in #ClimateTech to explore how AI is transforming ecosystem monitoring and protection: Dryad Networks, biometrio.earth, HarvestAi, and OroraTech.    Here are some of the takeaways from our panelists:   Fabian Schmidt-Pramov (biometrio.earth) 🍃 Showcased their “Shazam for nature,” using bioacoustics to identify birds and bats, assess biodiversity, and monitor forest health. Their Ecosystem Condition Index tracks environmental changes—sometimes capturing special guests like a tiger! 🐅 Arthur Annebicque (Dryad Networks) 🔥 Talked about how their systems can detect wildfires ultra-early, identifying smoldering fires before they spread. Their AI is trained in a burn chamber under controlled conditions and will soon incorporate predictive modeling with temperature and humidity data.   Kim Feuerbacher (OroraTech) 🛰️ Explained how ML models run directly on their satellites for wildfire detection - 'on-orbit processing' is a real thing now. OroraTech is adding more and more AI-driven models to its physics-based approach, with new satellite launches slated for this year.   Mounika Chenna (HarvestAi) 🌾 Discussed the challenges of building generalized vs. highly customized AI models in agriculture. Harvest.AI integrates computer vision with CO₂, light, and temperature data to optimize crop health, and is expanding into spot detection and disease identification.   A huge thank you to our panelists and Georg Peter for moderating. The insightful discussions—and the lively networking afterward—showcased the power of Berlin’s ClimateTech community in driving sustainable innovation.   Stay tuned for our next event—together, we can shape a greener, smarter future! ✨   #ClimateTech #AI #EcosystemMonitoring #WildfirePrevention #Sustainability #MachineLearning #SmartFarming

  • AI seems to be in every pitch deck these days. So how can investors distinguish real value from mere hype? Together with the student board and the investor team at Graduate Entrepreneur Fund, we had a great session on evaluating the role of AI in early-stage startups. As Nina puts it: “It was insightful to learn what questions to ask to founders in order to assess their data and AI maturity.” Thanks for organizing, Nina and Rui! And if you’re curious about the key questions to ask to founders, reach out to Bart Maassen. #AI #VC #Investors #StartUps
