Circular Rubber Platform

Internationale handel en ontwikkeling

We centralize knowledge and provide matchmaking tools for rubber specialists to enable a Circular Rubber Economy.

Over ons

Rubber is an unmissable material and applied in almost all the products we use, from shoes to flipflops, from airplanes to electric bicycles. The footprint of rubber however is high due to the origin of raw materials and difficulty to recycle it. The Circular Rubber Platform is making a circular rubber economy easy and accessible, by knowledge sharing, networking and fostering collaboration within the whole rubber industry. It presents solutions for rubber circularity (renewable and recovered raw materials and technologies) online and during meet-ups, and actively connects engineers, companies and universities. This way we inspire product designers, engineers and academics with what is already possible and motivate companies to rethink their material usage within all rubbers family, for example biobased rubbers, or rubber made with recycled raw materials. Finally, we work in project groups to really close material loops, such as shoe-to-shoe recycling. Circular Rubber Platform is part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation community.

🌱How is Soleic®'s end-of-life different from other bio-based materials? Not all bio-based materials are made equally. 🌿Bio-based materials are sourced from plants, and often have lower Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions than petroleum-based counterparts, but the resulting polymers are not necessarily biodegradable. This means they will remain in the environment for tens to hundreds of years and still produce persistent microplastics.♻️ ✨The good news: Soleic® is both bio-based and biodegradable✅. Soleic® materials are made from plant oil and are proven to biodegrade in compost, soil, and ocean environments🌊—without leaving behind persistent microplastics🏆— backed up by published scientific papers. In the past week, the industry media Tyre & Rubber Recycling has published 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 on the issue, including video footage we’ve wanted to share earlier but couldn’t verify. Both stories follow a BBC investigation, which reveals the reality of what happens when tyres are sent abroad in the name of reuse.   Watch the investigative reporting and read the articles here: 🔗 The Tyre Scandal – BBC File on 4 Investigates: https://lnkd.in/d7xZCgFS 🔗 Environment Agency Agrees to Review its Handling of Waste Tyres: https://lnkd.in/g-NS3K5w 🔗 Millions of UK tyres meant for recycling sent to furnaces in India: https://lnkd.in/ezq9sWr6 Transparency is key if we want to clean up the industry and create a truly circular economy for tyres – one that doesn’t just shift the problem out of sight. This Saturday April 5th is National Dandelion Day and while the ones in our lawns might be classed as weeds (although we think they’re rather beautiful and definitely very cheerful) there's an interesting variety worth highlighting – Taraxacum kok-saghyz, also known as the Russian dandelion. This particular species is being explored as a viable source of natural rubber. It’s not a new concept, but ongoing research and investment are bringing it closer to commercial reality. Unlike Hevea brasiliensis, the rubber tree that needs tropical climates and takes years before it can be tapped, Russian dandelions grow in temperate regions and can be harvested in just one season. Although thousands of plant species produce latex, only a few contain the right type and amount needed for rubber production. Taraxacum kok-saghyz stands out because its roots produce a latex with a particularly high concentration of cis-1,4-polyisoprene – the same polymer found in Hevea brasiliensis latex. At Wallace Instruments we support everyone working to build a more resilient bio-based rubber industry – whether it’s efforts to improve Hevea through disease resistance, higher-yielding clones and better plantation efficiency, or exploring alternative crops like dandelions and guayule. Our materials testing equipment continues to play a vital role in rubber-producing regions around the world and will remain just as essential as new sources are researched and scaled for commercial production. #NationalDandelionDay #RubberIndustry #RubberTesting Chris Norval Mary Norval George Bates RUBBER HEART

  • "What do you do to interest younger generation for technology?" During a brainstorm session for companies in the Regio Zwolle with the deputy of Overijssel, Erwin Hoogland, he challenged the companies with the question how we motivate youth and younger generations to decide on technical studies. This with the urgent message that student numbers in technical studies are in strong decline. Most other company directors organized open days, and organized activities for family members for their employees, but Circular Rubber Platform had only reached people at universities or older with their presentations and webinars. Although we cannot take up any challenge, especially if we have to do it for free in our own time, it still resonated with us. Luckily Eric Roetman already had experience with organizing open event activities for children with rubber and motivated us to join, so we decided a collaboration with him, Windesheim, Techlab Zwolle and Roestug. During Makersfestival at the Makersfabriek we helped some of the 5.400 visitors to learn how to patch a tire, or how to make a catapult from old bicycle tire tubes. (great idea Naud Huuskes!) A great video as a result, maybe see you next year with another great workshop on rubber materials and recycling! #acceleratechange #circularrubbereconomy #circulareconomy #rubber #technicalstudies https://lnkd.in/e_YgFATg Video by Windesheim

    Sterk in techniekinspiratie

#makersfabriek #techniekfestival #zwolle #robotica #techlabzwolle

Co-founder of Circular Rubber Platform, the online knowledge community about rubber waste revalorization and how to increase renewable- and recycled raw material content in OEM rubber products.

Should we organize a show one day? 🧐 While visiting the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, I get reconfirmed how important physical meetings are to create a strong connection and convince new companies to join the platform. That, while we have made the Circular Rubber Platform online to make it easy, accessible from anywhere and allow easy networking, it sometimes seems just not enough. And a physical fair just does work for inspiration, networking and connecting. Although rubber is not a plastic, REACH, sorting, separating, shredding and granulating are activities that overlap at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe that interest me and thus the platform. Great to meet with the #POLREC team and platform members like Hosokawa Micron B.V. THE 8 IMPACT Mansuy Rocquin AA Singh Plastic Energy and more! So the big question is: how could wé create an online environment to inspire and connect B2B, that creates connections strong enough to do business without meeting physically? Or should we also become physical one day? What do you think? #acceleratechange #circularrubbereconomy #circulareconomy #rubber
