  • Benue State Government Partners with Zebra CropBank to Revolutionize Agricultural Storage and Tackle Post-Harvest Losses In a groundbreaking move to enhance agricultural productivity and food security, the Benue State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zebra CropBank. This partnership aims to establish state-of-the-art storage and processing facilities across the state, addressing post-harvest losses and boosting market access for farmers. The signing ceremony marked a major step in Benue’s agricultural transformation. Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, represented by Deputy Governor H.E. Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, presided over the event. The MoU was signed by SSG Barr. Serumun Aber and witnessed by Aondoaseer Leo-Angelo Viashima, Director General of BICD. The Benue State Agricultural Development Company, led by Hon. Aorkwagh Donald Akula, will oversee the implementation, ensuring the partnership delivers on its promise to farmers and the state. Governor Alia prioritizes agricultural modernization through strategic investments and reforms. This partnership aligns with his vision to reduce post-harvest losses, a major challenge for farmers, by addressing infrastructural gaps that hinder productivity. This initiative, which emerged from discussions with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will enhance storage facilities, ensuring farmers can preserve produce and access larger markets efficiently. Under this partnership, Zebra CropBank, led by CEO Buffy Okeke-Ojiudu, will develop a network of modern agricultural warehouses across Benue. These facilities will meet international standards, preserving crop quality, reducing waste, and improving market opportunities for farmers. To facilitate this initiative, the Benue State Government will allocate land and infrastructure for warehouse construction and expedite regulatory approvals. Additionally, infrastructure development, including road networks, electricity, and water supply, will be prioritized to ensure seamless operations. These efforts align with Governor Alia’s agenda to enhance rural access to essential services and strengthen the logistics framework for agribusinesses. This partnership goes beyond storage, focusing on training farmers in advanced storage and post-harvest management. Zebra CropBank will lead capacity-building programs to enhance efficiency and maximize yields. By reducing post-harvest losses, the initiative will drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen the agribusiness sector. Governor Alia prioritizes education, technology adoption, and poverty alleviation through agricultural empowerment, ensuring rural communities have the tools to thrive. As Benue State forges strategic partnerships to combat food security challenges, this initiative stands as a model for agricultural transformation, ensuring that the state remains a leader in Nigeria’s agribusiness sector.

  • NCX & Zebra CropBank Partner to Integrate Access to Storage and Finance for Smallholder Farmers Towards ₦25 billion investment plan to reduce post-harvest losses The Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX) and Zebra CropBank have begun a strategic partnership to establish, develop and manage storage & processing facilities designed for the focal crops traded on the Exchange. This development brings together a shared commitment to deliver a strong network of purpose-built storage systems and financial technology offerings as foundational elements in the value chain of commodity trading. By extension, the resulting market access and price discovery is projected to impact over 110,000 smallholder farmers within 1 year of joint activities. These efforts highlight the priority of both organisations in ensuring proximity and accessibility of infrastructure for storage and financial services at farm gates. Both Mr. Anthony Atuche, Managing Director of NCX, and Mr. Buffy Okeke-Ojiudu, Founder of Zebra CropBank, are united in the belief that the “targets of this relationship must be quantified by lives impacted”. Key aspects of the current infrastructure challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural sector are to be addressed via a collaborative framework between NCX and Zebra CropBank which makes storage, trading and management of agricultural commodities more efficient. Being an organisation dedicated to providing viable solutions for aggregation and storage, Zebra CropBank steps up its positioning to support wider national interests driven by the NCX. Notably, Zebra CropBank brings a strong expertise in building a pioneering, tech-enabled produce management and distribution platform which has been transformative for smallholder farmers across Nigeria. The scope of collaboration includes: - Developing national supply chain infrastructure: Building and upgrading storage and aggregation facilities across Nigeria. - Facilitating domestic and international trade: Improving trade processes and expanding market access for agri-commodities. - Promoting the adoption of a functional Warehouse Receipt System: Engaging stakeholders and providing data-driven insights Alignment of NCX and Zebra CropBank upholds a public and private-sector approach to building out and growing effective solutions to pressing socio-economic challenges in agriculture. Within the NCX’s strategy to Revitalise the Ecosystem for Trading Commodities, this partnership finds a good fit in achieving long-term value creation for smallholder farmers, agri-processors and other key stakeholders. Establishing linkages from farm gate storage infrastructure to end-users bridges gaps that otherwise lead to post-harvest losses, serving as a catalyst for better systems in the agricultural value chain.
