In 2024, UN World Food Programme (WFP) Namibia reached over 26,000 people with support that made a real difference — from food vouchers 🍞 and soup kitchens 🍲 to help for children 🧒, pregnant women 🤰, and families hit hardest by drought. But we didn’t stop at emergency assistance. 🚨 As the UN Central Emergency Response Fund supported emergency response wraps up, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) Namibia team is in Kavango East & West, seeing its impact firsthand. For many families, this assistance was a lifeline—helping them put food on the table & make it through one of the toughest droughts in decades.

🌍 Post-Distribution Monitoring Visit 🌍 Yesterday, UN World Food Programme (WFP) Namibia Acting Country Director Tiwonge Machiwenyika alongside Japanese Ambassador, H.E. Shinichi Asazuma visited Farm Queen Sofia and the De Riet Settlement in the Kunene Region to assess the impact of commodity vouchers provided for drought relief. Community members shared how these vouchers made possible by the people of Japan have been a lifeline, helping them access essential food items during difficult times. Their insights are crucial in improving future support. A heartfelt thank you to the People and Government of Japan for their unwavering support to 26,556 people in the Kunene and Ohangwena regions.
