🌿Major advances thanks to concrete actions for the conservation of the Western Baobab forests 🍂In 2024, the technical consortium of the Western Baobab Conservation Project stepped up its efforts: 🔹22,544 patrols were carried out to ensure regular monitoring and surveillance of the Menabe Antimena, Andranomena and Kirindy Mite protected areas, 🔹143 agents and members of local communities were trained in fire-fighting to strengthen resilience in the face of increasing pressure. 🍀The involvement of protected area managers - Madagascar National Parks, Fanamby and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust - in ecological monitoring has led to a better understanding of the state of the habitats and the three baobab species present in this unique landscape. The validation and promotion of the new Ampataka circuit has also boosted local ecotourism. Thanks to the support of the Hempel Foundation and the financial management of FAPBM, the impact of this second year of implementation is very encouraging: ▪️30 hectares of baobab forest restored, ▪️60% reduction in deforestation in the landscape, ▪️32% increase in national visitors, ▪️and 172 million MGA in income generated for the communities since the start of the project thanks to their active participation (patrollers, service providers, etc.). 🍃Baobabs, majestic symbols of resilience, deserve our protection. 🌳 Maromizaha: BNI MADAGASCAR commits to nature and communities 🤝 In 2023, BNI MADAGASCAR in partnership with FAPBM and GERP Madagascar, launched an ecological restoration project covering 62 hectares of forest in Maromizaha. The objective is to reforest degraded areas while actively involving local communities. 🔹 With the support of student's parents from that region, 18,000 seedlings were planted. In exchange for their participation, these parents received school kits to support their children's education. 🔹 In Analamay, 10,000 trees were replanted thanks to the engagement of local residents. 🔹 Finally, during the last phase of reforestation, an additional 22,000 seedlings were planted. 🍃 A significant environmental and social impact By restoring ecosystems, this project contributes to the fight against climate change. It also improves the living conditions of local communities by supporting education and creating local economic opportunities. 💼 The Private Sector: A Key Player in Conservation ✅ BNI MADAGASCAR’s commitment to this project not only supports biodiversity conservation at both local and national levels but also contributes to local economic development. ✅ This initiative highlights the crucial role of the private sector in biodiversity conservation.
