On 20.03., our music director Gustavo Gimeno was officially named «Commander of the Order of Civil Merit» as part of a ceremony that took place in Toronto. This is one of the highest honours bestowed by the Kingdom of Spain. Such an acknowledgment says a lot of Gustavo’s invaluable contribution to the arts and to society over the years. There’s nothing better than sharing our love for music to inspire the next generation… This week, we’ve been playing side-by-side with talented students from Luxembourg’s conservatoires, under the baton of Giuseppe Mengoli. From bowing techniques to perfect phrasing, our musicians shared their tips and knowledge with their younger counterparts through several rehearsals both at the Philharmonie and the conservatoires. The final product? A wonderful concert on 22.03. at the Grand Auditorium, where aspiring and experienced musicians will bring Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and his Symphony N° 6 to life. Earlier this month, talented young singers took to the Philharmonie’s stage to tell us a coming-of-age-story that sounded very much like their own. Co-commissioned by the Philharmonie and WDR, «Zoe’s Singing Circus» is a musical show made for teenagers… and by teenagers! For days, students from local schools worked with the choir conductor Simon Halsey, the WDR Rundfunkchor and the TV presenter André Gatzke, until they were ready to treat us to a performance of the highest standard.
