Befesa delivers highest ever Q4 EBITDA of €62m and strong full-year 2024 results with 17% EBITDA growth   Asier Zarraonandia, CEO of Befesa, said: “Our strong performance in 2024 demonstrates not only the resilience of our business model but also our commitment to delivery. We are very confident about the outlook for 2025, which is underpinned by higher zinc hedges, steel dust volume growth in the US, and continuing operational improvements in our zinc refining plant. This will result in another strong year.”   Looking ahead, Befesa expects strong double-digit EBITDA growth in 2025 and aims to further reduce its leverage ratio below x2.5. The company’s business plan and capital allocation will focus on deleveraging and executing approved capex projects, with growth investments concentrated on the low-risk expansions at Palmerton and Bernburg, designed to capture opportunities in key markets. We are excited to share the progress of Befesa’s LIFE HYDROGAS project, which is set to be a game-changer in sustainability and waste-to-energy solutions. The project aims to stabilise and clean the waste gas (Hydrogas) produced during aluminium salt slag recycling, transforming it into high-purity hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) streams that can be used as alternative fuels to natural gas in steam boilers.   🔬 This solution involves: - Purification & Separation: Using advanced membrane technology to produce separate high-purity hydrogen and methane streams - Gas Cleaning: Removing harmful compounds like siloxanes, H₂S, and VOCs to ensure safe, clean fuel - Ammonia Recovery: Capturing ammonia (NH₃) from the gas stream for resale, creating additional value - Stabilisation: Implementing damping technologies to ensure consistent gas flow, enabling efficient operations   🌱 The impact of this project is significant: - 36% reduction in the natural gas consumption of salt slag recycling - Saving 17.9 GWh/year of energy - Reducing 3,619 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year   At Befesa, we are committed to rethinking industrial processes to protect the planet and promote a circular economy. Befesa considers risk management to be a top priority. A proper compliance system must be based on a detailed risk analysis. For this reason, Befesa has a risk management system (RMS) in place to analyse, evaluate, and manage the risks of the different aspects of its operations. The purpose of Befesa’s RMS is to identify and assess the major risks that affect or may affect the Company. The system also provides Befesa with a supporting tool in decision-making through the provision of strategies aimed at risk management and control. The process followed is divided into different phases: 1. Risk identification process 2. Risk assessment process 3. Implementation of mitigation controls & action plans 4. Risk monitoring The risk analysis and risk map are updated annually to include new risks (or to modify current ones) and new controls to mitigate risks. Following that, it is presented and approved by the Board of Directors. In this sense, the risk map must, as far as possible, reflect the reality of Befesa and must help to adapt to changes that may influence the Company. #compliance #risks #mitigation

Befesa hosts its Winter Greeting Cards Contest every year. As always, we are especially grateful for the enthusiastic participation and creativity shown by the children and relatives of our employees.   We are happy to announce the winners in their respective categories. Each winner received an exciting prize, along with a company-sponsored €100 donation to an NGO of their choice.   Congratulations to Fiona (5 years old from China), who chose to support the Amity Foundation's “Take a Bag of Trash” project, and to Maialen (9 years old from Spain), who selected Unoentrecienmil, an organisation dedicated to combating childhood leukaemia.   A big thank you to everyone who participated for sharing your talent and spreading joy across our community! Befesa is pleased to announce the winner of the Environmental Initiative Award 2024. This initiative promotes the commitment and support of our employees to local environmental NGOs in the communities where we operate. This year, the award goes to Living Forests of Eibar, presented by José Manuel Kaltzakorta Zenitagoia. To create resilient and diverse ecosystems that favour the recovery of soils and the improvement of the natural environment, this project involves planting 2,500 native trees to recover degraded land in the area around Eibar, affected by the monoculture of fast-growing trees that have been damaged by brown band disease. The project’s key objectives include: 🦉 Increasing biodiversity by restoring natural habitats and promoting the coexistence of diverse flora and fauna species. 🐝 Creating natural corridors that enable species dispersal, fostering healthy and genetically diverse populations. 🌼 Protecting native species by prioritising the planting of native flora will support the region’s ecological balance. 💧 Restoring degraded ecosystems, improving soil quality, and enhancing the water cycle through reforestation with native species. 🌳 Encouraging resilient forest ecosystems that can withstand challenges such as fires and pests, ensuring the stability and longevity of the environment Further information: https://lnkd.in/emY46w_e Befesa will donate €15,000 to support this vital project as part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. As Newsweek highlights in its report, the recycling of metals shows how the circular economy can be applied at a large and high-impact scale, as one tonne of steel recycled can save no less than 1.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions, rendering this type of recycling one of the most impactful circular processes globally (World Steel Association). Within this context, Rafael Pérez (Befesa’s CFO) has explained how Befesa has developed processes to extract maximum value from what would otherwise be nothing more than waste: "The process involves using a 60-meter long kiln, rotating continuously to extract zinc from steel dust. This zinc comes from steel scrap, much of which is galvanized, meaning it has a thin layer of zinc coating to prevent corrosion." The impact is substantial: "By recycling over 1.2 million tons of material each year, we prevent the need for equivalent volumes of natural resource extraction." This translates to 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided annually through their recycling operations.

The LIFE BAUXAL II project, led by Befesa Aluminio in collaboration with INSERTEC Furnaces & Refractories, has been successfully completed. The transformation of secondary aluminium oxide in Refinal and its subsequent use as a raw material in the manufacture of refractories has been industrially validated in different sectors, such as aluminium, steel and iron. The industrial test on the lining of the aluminium holding furnace at Befesa Aluminium's plant in Erandio (Spain) has reported very positive results.  The material developed within the scope of the project has competitive features, both in terms of efficiency and performance, compared to the reference materials currently available on the market. The project ends successfully presenting the possibility of introducing in the European market an alternative raw material to refractory grade bauxites of mineral origin, considered a critical raw material (CRM) for Europe. #LifeBauxal #circulareconomy #bauxite #refractory #criticalrawmaterials

Befesa achieves solid Q3 with double-digit adjusted EBITDA growth amidst challenging market   As Asier Zarraonandia, CEO of Befesa, highlighted: “Befesa has delivered solid Q3 results, demonstrating our resilience in a challenging market. Our Steel Dust Recycling business in Europe and the USA performed strongly, underpinned by our resilient business model and successful zinc hedging strategy, which is now secured beyond Q2 2026. This performance, coupled with a positive Q4 outlook, allows us to expect fullyear adjusted EBITDA in the range of €210-€215 million. Befesa has held the VII Edition of the Befesa Charity Projects Contest award ceremonies in each corresponding geography. This year, the awarded projects share a common theme of offering support to families going through some of life’s most challenging moments - whether facing serious illness, navigating neurodivergence, or making final dreams come true. Give Kids The World Village, a project focused on providing memorable experiences to children with critical illnesses, emerged as the first-prize winner. ASPANOVAS (Spain), a foundation supporting families of children with cancer, was awarded the second prize. The third prize was shared between Mundo Azul (Spain), which supports children with autism and their families, and Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Regionalverband Magdeburg, recognised for its Wish Car project, which helps fulfil the last wishes of terminally ill individuals.
