Want to make your resume way more impactful and save a third of a page? Easy: delete all mentions of soft skills. Seriously — stuff like “hardworking,” “team player,” or “strong leadership skills” does nothing for you. They’re easy to fake, don’t prove anything, and hiring managers know it. And no, adding them to your skills section for keyword matching doesn’t help. No one is filtering resumes for “detail-oriented” and tossing the rest. Instead of saying “strong communicator,” say what you did: ✅ “Presented to execs and helped close $3M in funding” ✅ “Led a team of 8 mid-level managers” Those are real, specific, and actually say something. Soft skills do matter — but they show up in how you present yourself, how you write, and especially in interviews. Putting “great listener” on your resume isn’t convincing anyone. So try this: delete every vague soft skill from your resume and watch what happens. – Your writing will get sharper – Your resume will get shorter – And you’ll stop sounding like a tryhard Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.
