avatarin was established as a spin-out of ANA Holdings Inc. in 2020 to democratize mobility by opening the door to a world in which anyone can instantly and sustainably transport themselves to a remote destination. avatarin aims to achieve this goal through the development of core technologies that enable real-time teleportation of human presence and skills through robots and other mobility solutions. This new avatarin capability will not only help the world efficiently share its skills but also exponentially expand the spectrum of human interaction data that can be collected from real-world experiences.

avatarin’s flagship product is a mobile, communication AI avatar robot called newme. Deployment of the newme robot is the first step in a larger vision to pioneer an instant, sustainable, and inclusive mobility network to connect people to places and experiences. avatarin has been operating newme robots in aquariums and museums since 2021 and is working to expand deployment to public spaces including airports, hotels, hospitals, government offices, train stations, and retail stores in Japan and around the world.

■Job Description

As a cloud operation engineer in Avatarin Cloud Infrastructure Department, you ensure that our cloud services meet the service level agreement of our demanding enterprise customers. This is achieved with, the best engineering practices and resilient design.

A typical day involves a dynamic blend of technical tasks and strategic thinking. You might spend half a day monitoring system health, responding to alerts, and troubleshooting performance issues. This could involve diving into logs, analyzing metrics, or coordinating with development and SRE teams to resolve critical problems. During the rest of the schedule, the focus might shift to capacity planning, optimizing resource utilization, or implementing automation scripts to streamline routine tasks. Additionally, documenting everything is essential. A significant portion of the day might be dedicated to collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as SRE, and development engineers, to ensure the smooth operation of avatarin’s cloud infrastructure.

■Responsibilities

1) Cloud Infrastructure Management:

-Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure resources (e.g., virtual machines, Kubernetes, storage, networks, databases) on AWS.

-Monitor system performance and resource utilization to identify potential bottlenecks and optimize resource allocation.

2)Monitoring and Alerting:

-Set up monitoring tools to track system health, performance, and security metrics.

-Configure alerts for critical issues and define response procedures.

-Proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact services.

3)Incident Response:

-Respond to system failures and security incidents in a timely and effective manner.

-Conduct root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.

-Collaborate with other teams to deploy fixes and improve system resilience.

4)Automation and Scripting:

-Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks and improve efficiency.

-Streamline infrastructure provisioning and configuration by the automation tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Helm).

5)Collaboration:

-Work closely with development, SRE, and business teams to ensure smooth operations.

-Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on infrastructure-related aspects.

6)Rotational Shifts:

-A flexible work schedule requires 6am - 11pm rotational shifts to respond to critical system issues outside regular business hours.

■Must-have skills

• Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Proficiency in at least one of the programming languages (e.g., Python, Golang)
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform).
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, etc).
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Document everything so you don’t need to learn the same thing twice.

■Nice to have

• Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, etc).
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, etc).
• Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN) and security best practices.

Working Conditions

• Flexible work schedule: 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, between 6am to 11pm
• Schedule-based rotational shifts
