Preferred Networks will be featured in #ManagingAsia on CNBC International this weekend. Thank you Christine Tan and the crew for the visit! 📺Airing times: EUROPE (CET) 8 Mar SAT: 6:00, 10:00, 18:00 9 Mar SUN: 7:00, 16:00, 19:00 ASIA (HK/SIN) 8 Mar SAT: 7:00, 18:00 9 Mar SUN: 8:00,10:00, 19:00
Next on #ManagingAsia, I traveled to Tokyo to talk to the founders of Japanese tech unicorn Preferred Networks, Inc., who think they can give #Nividia a run for its money. Meet Toru Nishikawa & Daisuke Okanohara, the 2 friends who met in university who decided to start an AI technology startup in 2014 with the vision to solve real world problems and to improve lives. Their solutions and products now being deployed across a range of industries like transportation, healthcare, drug discovery and retail have captured early funding from investors like Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation, robot manufacturer #Fanuc Corp & financial services group #SBI Holdings based in Japan. Among their many projects is a joint venture with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. to develop self-driving trucks in an industry where there had been a shortage of drivers. The company also has a tie-up with Kao Corporation to use deep learning and AI expertise for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease, using sebum RNAs collected from oily films. One of the company’s biggest breakthroughs is building Japan’s most powerful supercomputer with the development of their proprietary MN-Core processes that has the ability to drastically reduced energy and power consumption. It topped Green500’s list for being the world’s most energy efficient supercomputer and most importantly produced at a significantly lower cost. Commercializing this technology is where both founders feel could break Nividia’s dominance in the generative AI industry whose GPU’s are one of the most expensive in the world. When asked whether they can help put Japan back in the tech race now dominated by the US and China? Their answer was an emphatic yes. The interviews airs on CNBC International at the times below. 5 Mar WED 23:00 8 Mar SAT: 6:00, 10:00, 18:00 9 Mar SUN: 7:00, 16:00, 19:00 ASIA (HK/SIN) 8 Mar SAT: 7:00, 18:00 9 Mar SUN: 8:00,10:00, 19:00 #leadership #PreferredNetworks #AI #Japan #DeepLearning #Toyota #listing
