At the 2024 Japan Flag Football Championship, Damar Hamlin, a professional American football player, attended the event and conducted a hands-on demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using a ZOLL AED. We are honored to be part of this awareness event through sponsorship by ZOLL alongside Chasing M's Foundation, and the American Heart Association. Hamlin also participated in the opening ceremony of the Japan Flag Football Championship, where he delivered an inspiring speech to encourage the athletes and donated ZOLL AEDs. Following his sudden cardiac arrest and recovery in January 2023, Hamlin has collaborated with ZOLL on the Anything Can Happen. Anyone Can Help.™ campaign, which highlights AEDs as vital tools designed to empower anyone to help save a life with confidence, regardless of training. The Asahi Kasei Group’s strength lies in the utilization of a diverse variety of business models based on its wide range of innovative technologies. With a foundation in chemical technology, we have established many of our core technologies through unique broad combinations. One example is the application of membrane separation technology. In 1922, we embarked on the construction of a fertilizer plant and a hydroelectric power plant to enhance agricultural productivity. The following year, we became the first in Japan to successfully produce synthetic ammonia, contributing to a stable food supply through chemical fertilizers. At the same time, we sought to provide affordable and high-quality clothing via the production of regenerated cellulose fibers. As time passed, the demand for synthetic fibers increased in the apparel industry, while the market for regenerated cellulose fibers declined. However, rather than being discouraged, our researchers saw this as an opportunity and pioneered new applications utilizing our expertise in fiber technology, resulting in our company’s expansion into the healthcare sector. The "porous membrane technology" used in virus removal filters has also been applied to lithium-ion battery separators and hydrogen production system, contributing to the realization of a more sustainable society. The foundation of our technological innovation lies in the spirit of solving challenges and creating a better society—an ethos that has been passed down since our founding. March 18, on Recycling Day, we highlight the innovation in chemical recycling. With the European Commission’s End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) directive requiring increased plastic recycling in the automotive industry, innovative solutions are more important than ever. By 2030, 25% of the plastics used in new vehicles must be recycled materials, with a quarter sourced from ELVs. Asahi Kasei is driving change through chemical recycling. In collaboration with Microwave Chemical Co., Ltd., we have begun verification trials for a microwave-based depolymerization technology that efficiently monomerizes polyamide 66, a durable engineering plastic widely used in airbags and automotive components, from scrapped airbags and automotive parts. This process has the potential to reduce energy consumption and lower GHG emissions, supporting a more circular economy. For more insights, read an interview with Dr. -Ing. Yasuhisa Ichihashi Ichihashi, who is working to implement efficient chemical recycling of polyamide 66. He discusses key topics such as the roadmap for widespread adoption and global industry trends. https://lnkd.in/gQkRpXK6 #RecyclingDay #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ChemicalRecycling #Innovation

On February 19th and 20th, the Asahi Kasei Judo Workshop took place for the seventh time in Düsseldorf. Initiated in 2017, this Workshop has become a traditional annual event for the local Judo community, introducing young children to the art and values of Judo. 120 children from the Lessing Gymnasium and the Japanese School in Düsseldorf joined on February 20th. The evening before, 70 experienced Judo-ka gained insights to various techniques from Asahi Kasei's professional coaches and former athletes. This year, we had the special pleasure to welcome Shohei Ohno as one of the coaches. Having a two-times Olympic Gold medalist (Rio de Janeiro 2016 & Tokyo 2021) showing tricks and techniques added further to the high quality of the Workshop. For Ohno, it was his second participation after 2017. In addition, Kenzo Nakamura, Head Coach of the Asahi Kasei Judo Team, Ryunosuke Haga, Playing Coach of the Asahi Kasei Judo Team, and Johannes Frey from local Judo Club JC 71 also demonstrated their skills and answered many questions from the curious participants. Special thanks go out to our Judo Team, JC 71, the Lessing Gymnasium, the Japanese School, the City of Düsseldorf & D.SPORTS and the Japanese Consulate General in Düsseldorf for their unwavering support of this fantastic cross-cultural activity! March 3rd is World Wildlife Day, a time to recognize the importance of protecting biodiversity and fostering harmony between people and nature. Asahi Kasei's mission is to "contribute to life and living for people around the world"—and this includes safeguarding the ecosystems that sustain us. One of our key biodiversity initiatives, the "Asahi Woods of Life (Asahi Inochi no Mori)", exemplifies this commitment. Established in 2007 at our Fuji office in Japan, it began with a planting event involving approximately 2,000 employees and local residents. This 1-hectare artificial forest was created on a former factory site to restore the region’s natural landscape. With expert-led green space maintenance and management plans, the forest has flourished into a thriving ecosystem. Today, it provides a habitat for over 40 bird species and more than 600 insect species, demonstrating the success of our biodiversity efforts. Beyond conservation, the project actively engages in joint research with universities and the local community to improve vegetation. The insights gained are shared through lectures and published in journals, strengthening efforts to protect biodiversity. We reaffirm our dedication to preserving nature and fostering biodiversity. #WorldWildlifeDay #Biodiversity #Sustainability #EnvironmentalConservation #NatureRestoration
