A big congratulations to London Gatwick Airport for this significant upgrade, allowing travellers to carry a wide range of products with them through a much quicker security screening process.   Our CT scanners, HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX installed across 19 security lanes, generate 3D rotatable images that assist security personnel in quickly identifying potential threats. Did you know C4 plastic explosive has a very similar molecular density to certain cheeses? By mapping the unique ‘fingerprints’ of different materials using the scatter pattern of diffracted rays, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) confidently distinguishes between threats, contraband and everyday items.   This precise approach makes it particularly suitable for automatically resolving alarms generated by EDS systems at Level 1. Automating up to 80% of Level 2 decisions is a game-changer for operations constantly under pressure to screen large volumes quickly and efficiently – e.g. multi-level baggage handling and fast-forwarding small parcels and mail.   Inconsistencies in shape, form and physical characteristics when drugs are cut with other substances, make narcotics detection very complex.
