Plant Flow Solutions (PFS) is a startup specialized in the measurement of plant performance. Using the most novel and innovative measurement technologies, it performs advanced agronomical trials in fully controlled environments. Born from the University of Turin, PFS employs advanced methods like gas exchange analysis and fluorometry. It accelerates plant screening and phenotyping, offering analysis services that help enhancing agricultural research. With a fully climate-controlled facility comprising growth chambers and a greenhouse—each over 300 sqm—strong customer focus, and adherence to the highest scientific standards, the company is building on its track record of successful partnerships with biostimulant producers, helping them achieve a new level of detail.

    📏 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 Thanks to the use of the 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗘𝘆𝗲 system by PHENOSPEX , it is possible to non-invasively monitor morphysiological adaptations that reflect the health status of the plant. Among these, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 proves to be one of the most sensitive indicators for the early detection of stress signals. 🌿 As shown in the graph, plants treated with a biostimulant maintain a wider leaf angle — that is, leaves oriented more perpendicularly to incoming solar radiation. ⚠️ In contrast, under water stress conditions, untreated plants rapidly change the inclination of their leaves, orienting them parallel to the light as a defensive response. 👉 This behavior suggests greater tolerance induced by the biostimulant treatment, allowing the plant to maintain its functional leaf architecture for a longer period. 🔬 A special thanks goes to PHENOSPEX for making accessible a technology that transforms plant physiology into objective, high-resolution, continuous data.     🌱 What if Mendel had today’s tools to measure plants? Imagine if Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics, had access to modern phenotyping tools. Instead of spending years measuring pea plants by hand, he could have screened thousands in days. 🔬 What more insights would he have left us? That transformation is happening right now in biostimulant research. 🚀 Over the past year, I visited biostimulant companies using our products across Europe and the US, and one thing became crystal clear: 👉 Small teams, embracing technology, redefine standards and move fast. At companies like Plant Flow Solutions, Sound Agriculture , and FytoFend, I met small but highly efficient phenotyping teams, sometimes just two people, running entire lead screening pipelines. ✅ What once took full teams weeks to complete now happens in just a few hours per week. ✅ By accelerating essential phenotyping tasks like measuring plant height, leaf area, or biomass, they’re freeing up valuable time to focus on more complex traits and high-impact research. At ANADIAG ITALIA SRL, a researcher told me: 🗨️ “I never thought we’d move beyond SPAD, but now we’re doing more, faster, with fewer people.” This isn’t just about automation, it’s about enabling researchers to think bigger and focus on discovery.   • At PFS, we do not just work around problems — 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. 💡 When a customer asked us to test a 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 🍇 to assess its effects on 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, we took on the challenge with enthusiasm. The results were promising, so we decided to go a step further by performing a 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 to better understand the 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺𝘀 at play. For this, we needed 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗡𝗔 from the tested plants. While we routinely extract RNA from crops like 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻, 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼, 𝘀𝗼𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿, mature grapevines posed a new challenge. Our usual protocols did not deliver the 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 we needed. Sequencing would have been possible, but the resulting data would not have met our 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀. After testing various solutions without success, we sought advice from the 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗡𝗥-𝗜𝗣𝗦𝗣 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻 🧬 (http://www.ipsp.cnr.it/en/).
