Fondata nel 1980, COSMED è un’azienda leader nella diagnostica cardiopolmonare, nella misura del metabolismo e della composizione corporea. Fin dalla sua nascita COSMED ha avuto come obiettivo primario la produzione di sistemi di qualità e all’avanguardia, per fornire ai propri clienti soluzioni altamente professionali. COSMED ha iniziato nel 1980 con la progettazione e produzione di spirometri. Verso la fine degli anni ‘80, ha introdotto lo spirometro elettronico portatile “Pony” che ottenne immediatamente un grande successo nei mercati europei e dell’Estremo Oriente con più di 20.000 unità vendute in tutto il mondo. A metà degli anni ‘90 COSMED ha progettato e realizzato il primo analizzatore metabolico portatile, il “K4”. Questo dispositivo, davvero innovativo, divenne rapidamente la più diffusa apparecchiatura per la misurazione del consumo di ossigeno, presente nei principali dipartimenti di Fisiologia, Scienza dello Sport e Ricerca. La gamma completa di apparecchiature per la diagnostica cardiopolmonare e valutazione nutrizionale della COSMED è stata ulteriormente implementata nel 2011, con l’acquisizione di Life Measurement, Inc. (LMI), azienda statunitense leader nella produzione di sistemi “Gold Standard” per la valutazione della composizione corporea di neonati, bambini e adulti. Tutti i prodotti COSMED sono progettati per soddisfare le ultime raccomandazioni e linee guida delle principali organizzazioni scientifiche, tra cui American Thoracic Society (ATS), la European Respiratory Society (ERS), l’American Heart Association (AHA) e l’American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM).
