Criosfera is a synthesis of optical, material, and scientific knowledge, translating into a manifesto of values bridging the present and the future. The external blown glass cylinder serves as the structure within which the optoelectronic engine disappears without casting visible shadows. Its uniqueness and limitations stem from its craftsmanship. Engravings are imprinted into the hot glass before blowing, creating a wavy and irregular thickness. The piece embodies the measured perfection of optical extrusion, diffusing light seamlessly while concealing its internal sources. This element integrates into space through three essential structures inspired by the scientific instruments used to extract and analyze ice cores. These structures are composed of laser-cut surfaces, a technology that optimizes material use. The engraved markers on the structures indicate CO2 levels corresponding to each section of the Ice Core. Pre-industrial data remained within stable parameters for the past 800,000 years. However, the unprecedented CO2 level recorded in 2024, 422 ppm, stands as an ultimatum. As humanity, we must urgently decarbonize to keep global temperatures below the 1.5°C threshold set by the Paris Agreement and safeguard life on Earth for all species. Our lighting design was conceived to enhance the historical character of the building, originally constructed in 1928, while also adding value to the newly designed spaces with solutions that blend design, technology, and sustainability. With a carefully selected range of Artemide fixtures, light becomes a key element in ensuring comfort and functionality, perfectly aligning with the project’s minimalist and responsible approach. This synergy between innovation and responsibility has contributed to the JUNG Founder’s Villa project being honored with the German Design Award 2025, reaffirming the excellence of a vision where light and architecture exist in perfect harmony. Designed by Carlotta de Bevilacqua, Funivia is a lighting system that redefines spatial dynamics by offering flexibility, sustainability, and innovation. The system is based on a supporting and conductive cable that seamlessly distributes energy, creating a fluid network of light without predefined paths or rigid structures. Through minimal fastening elements, the cable runs freely across walls, ceilings, and floors, integrating seamlessly with any space. Lighting fixtures attach to the cable via a bridge element, allowing for precise positioning and wireless control via the Artemide APP or local dimming. Funivia is a sustainable solution that reduces material waste and adapts to any environment, making it ideal for projects requiring flexibility and high-performance lighting.
