Í nýjasta blaði „Vikan“ má lesa um námskeiðið, upplifun beggja kvenna og verkefni sem þær eru að standa við. Huawei hefur staðið þennan vettvang fyrir konur í Evrópu síðan 2021. • Huawei Iceland has implemented a media literacy and cybersecurity program for children 11-15 since 2020. The program consists of a survey which measures risky behavior of children online, and free lectures offered to schools for pupils 11-15 years of age. Over 5.000 students from North, West and South Iceland have answered the survey. In 2024 16 schools were visited, and 2080 students sat engaging lectures presented by the one and only Lalli Töframaður. Beatriz Garcia Martinez who oversees the program has recently written an article summarizing the importance of media literacy and the newest findings of SmartBus. SmartBus is designed in cooperation with education experts that advice the European Union on digital education Janice Richardson and is implemented in Iceland in cooperation with local partners SAFT Skúli Bragi Geirdal and Heimili og skóli - landsamtök foreldra. https://lnkd.in/epmaTxMu

  • This week Huawei Iceland is proud to participate at the second Women's Academy for Rural Innovation in Croatia with a strong Icelandic presence, women who are working to develop solutions to tackle the needs of rural communities in the West Fjords and in rural towns in Bulgaria. We are inspired by their stories, and that of the other 18 women who were selected to join the program. We will share their stories more in depth throughout the course of the event. Our fearless leader Berta Herrero has brought together a superb group of speakers, leaders and innovators to inform, inspire, and encourage these women entrepreneurs. So far we covered important issues that impact women directly and indirectly, from bias in funding and healthcare to the ethics of connectivity and AI, and the importance of the semiconductor industry and the green transition. We thank Inga Ros Gunnarsdottir and Inga Henriksen who were part of an exclusive jury panel responsible for selecting 20 participants out of a strong pool of young changemakers. Congratulations to the European Leadership Academy for the important work they are doing to support European innovation, and the women who dare, against many odds, to pursue it.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 🌿✨ Today, the European Leadership Academy welcomed a new cohort of students ready to transform Europe's rural areas. Selected from thousands of applicants, they bring unique talents, passions, and dreams. They are the reason the future looks so bright! 🌟 I was honoured to address them at our Inaugural Ceremony, magnificently hosted by Luisa Baldini in the Croatian countryside. I told them that they are the very reason this Academy exists. Because I come from a remote area and I have seen how tough life can get there, yet how skilful and passionate rural women are, I always wanted to make them seen, heard, and admired — they fully deserve it. Snaps of my opening speech: 🌾 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Women from rural areas go above and beyond to seize opportunities, and that is why the future belongs to them. One of our students is heavily pregnant, yet has travelled across four different countries to be here with us. She's doing great, and her courage inspires us to open up more opportunities for rural women. They are unstoppable! 💡 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐫𝐚: In this age of #digitalisation, technology means freedom — freedom to create, to design the future, and to live life on our own terms. I cherish the resoluteness of those of our students who have started their own businesses in rural areas thanks to technology. They are role models! 🏡 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: The friendships our students create will help them create lasting impact. This is more than an educational program — it’s a lifelong support network, and I'm very proud of the solid and inspiring community we are building. I still meet and mentor students from our first edition, and they have grown bolder, stronger and wiser than I could have imagined. I love following their journeys and supporting them at every step! Today, our newest cohort also heard from outstanding leaders shaping the worlds of semiconductors, rural development and EU policy. My dearest Mary Coughlan, one of the most inspiring women I know, said: "The energy here is fantastic. Women are catalysts for change." MEPs José Cepeda García de León & Karlo Ressler emphasized how smart villages, precision agriculture and #AI can transform rural areas. Laith Altimime, a renowned thought leader in #semiconductors, stressed that "#leadership, gender diversity and #innovation are essential to Europe's future, and to the sustainability of the industry." Our own Han WEN reminded us: "Empowering women in rural areas is a shared responsibility across all sectors." At Huawei, we are committed! So looking forward to another unforgettable week with my beautiful ELA family 💚 #RuralChangeMakers #WomenInLeadership #DigitalTransformation #NextGenChangeMakers #RuralisTheNewCool

Our brand new Global Digitalization Index is out!🌐💹 We have upgraded the GCI - the Global Connectivity Index and created the GDI – the Global Digitalization Index. The GDI measures the maturity of a country's ICT industry by factoring in more indicators for digital infrastructure, including computing, storage, cloud, and green energy. It quantifies the value of each country's ICT industry and its impact on their national economy to help them make more informed decisions about the digital economy. The GDI measures the digitalization progress of 77 countries using 42 indicators under the four crucial enablers: Ubiquitous Connectivity, Digital Foundation, Green Energy, and Policy & Ecosystem. This research covers countries representing a total of 93% of the world's GDP and encompassing 80% of the global population, meaning it gives a good indication of the general progress in global digital transformation. • Today we are at the Startup Supernova accelerator sharing cybersecurity insights for startups. Marja Dunderfelt, Huawei´s Cybersecurity Officer for the Nordics is providing individual guidance to each team, helping them understand GDPR rules, their role in managing and handling data, and giving them valuable tips about how to close loopholes early and enhance their product security from the start. We are proud sponsors of Startup Supernova for the third year in a row, and are thrilled to be able to contribute to the program with knowhow and expertise in such a critical area. 🌍 Exciting Expansion Ahead at ELA! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce that the European Leadership Academy is expanding its borders! ELA will now welcome talented students from Turkey, Switzerland, and Iceland, offering unprecedented opportunities for more young women to access our transformative educational programmes. Announced during the Summer School Gala speech of our founder, Berta Herrero, this growth marks a significant milestone in our journey towards fostering female leadership across Europe and beyond. At ELA, we're dedicated to creating spaces where young leaders can flourish, challenge norms, and innovate for the future. This expansion not only enlarges our footprint but deepens our commitment to empowering the #NextGenChangeMakers and #RuralChangeMakers. 🚀 Why stop at borders when leadership knows no bounds?

  • The #Seedsforthefuture program this year was epic! We were inspired by the talent that gathered in Rome to ideate, innovate and imagine a greener more sustainable future powered by existing technologies. In just 3 days they came up with truly impactful ideas, that we hope they continue to work on. Four Icelandic students participated in the program, and their idea made it to the final. It is our privilege to provide this platform for cross-cultural collaboration, where students learn the ins-and-outs of social entrepreneurship, develop business acumen, and start building a global network of peers.

  • On Monday we kicked off the #seedsforthefuture program in Rome with inspirational talks about technology, sustainability, and the skills required to build the future we all want. The students got to know each other at the Global Village, where they shared each other's culture, food and dance. This is an inquisitive and impressive cohort. We look forward to seeing the solutions they come up with throughout the week.
