𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝟒𝟓°𝐂. 𝐇𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝟔 𝐀𝐌. Every morning, Raju ties a cloth around his head, fills his bottle with water, and walks 5 km to the construction site. He doesn’t complain — not about the heat, not about the long hours, not even when the sun feels like fire on his back. But this summer, something changed. The Ministry of Labour has written to all states, asking them to allow slower work paces and flexible schedules for workers like Raju. The goal? 𝐓𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚. This might sound small. But for someone working 10 hours under the sun, a little flexibility can be the difference between exhaustion and survival. Imagine if Raju could start earlier in the morning or take longer breaks. If he didn’t have to choose between his wage and his well-being. This move is more than policy — it’s empathy in action. Let’s hope states implement this seriously.
