Did you know that WHO (World Health Organization) recommends at least 4 antenatal care visits during pregnancy but only 58% mothers in India have followed this guideline, according to the NFHS-5 report? Several factors including lack of awareness about the importance of medical support, geographical challenges in accessing health facilities, overcrowded healthcare centres and societal beliefs contribute to women not seeking care on time. This makes women prone to developing high-risk conditions during pregnancy such as anemia, hypertension, diabetes, resulting in low birth weight, malnutrition and causes barriers in growth and development of the child, ultimately contributing to maternal and child mortality and morbidity. As we approach World Health Day, let’s come together to ensure "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures" for women and children in India. We conducted state-level workshops in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with the respective health departments, to create awareness and highlight the importance of the Kilkari and Mobile Academy programmes in bringing about improvement in maternal and child health outcomes in the states. The workshops emphasized on the benefits of the programmes for women and children and also reviewed the performance of the Kilkari calls, along with discussions about improving listenership among pregnant women and mothers. The sessions also focused on the importance of training Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) through the Mobile Academy course to enable them to provide timely care to women and children. The best performing districts were showcased in the workshops and ASHAs who have completed the Mobile Academy course were awarded certificates. #MaternalHealth #ChildHealth #HealthWorkshops #Kilkari #ASHA #PublicHealth #healthawareness #mhealth
