Most cities want to build a tech economy. Few know where to start. That’s where Nicholas Lalla’s new book, 'Reinventing the Heartland', comes in. It’s a practical guide for cities looking to grow good tech jobs, starting with their existing assets. Team8 partnered with the organization Nick founded, Tulsa Innovation Labs, to launch the Cyber Fellows program at the University of Tulsa—a doctoral fellowship to support deep tech research and entrepreneurship in cybersecurity. If you’re serious about building innovation capacity outside of the usual "tech hubs," this book is a must-read: https://lnkd.in/eAbcq7wN

What do most founders get wrong about building trust, GTM, and financial modeling? Check out 5 key takeaways and tips for early-stage founders from Sarit Firon, Team8 Managing Partner, in her interview with Yuval Passov, Head of Google for Startups 👇

Head of Google for Startups, Emerging Markets | Startup Mentor | Certified Coach | Speaker

Last week, I had one of the most candid, insightful conversations I’ve ever had on startup building, investing, and leadership—with Sarit Firon. The founders in the room didn’t know quite what to expect. They knew Sarit by reputation: – Managing Partner at Team8 – More than $40B in combined exits – A rare mix of operator, investor, board leader But the Sarit who showed up? She brought more than a track record. She brought clarity, heat, and most importantly—she brought the kind of honesty most people wait until after the deal to share. She talked about what no one tells founders: ✓ Why the financial model isn’t just about numbers. It’s about narrative. ✓ Why execution isn’t just speed. It’s timing, hiring, and obsession. ✓ Why most founders misunderstand what investors evaluate in the room. We didn’t talk generally about “grit”. We talked about being the only woman in the boardroom for 20 years. About starting your career in accounting just to pay the bills—and realizing 15 years later it gave her a superpower. About trusting your instinct enough to back a team before they have an idea. And while it felt intimate, it wasn’t small. Every founder in that circle walked away thinking differently about their team, numbers, pitch, and mindset. Here are 5 takeaways every early-stage founder needs to hear: 1. Your team dynamic is more visible than you think. Investors are evaluating how you work together, not just what you’ve built. Misalignment in energy, tone, or respect? If only the CEO talks? It takes seconds for them to decide not to work with you. 2. The financial model isn’t a spreadsheet, it’s a mirror. “So many brilliant founders, so many naive numbers.” Sarit sees founders under-research pricing, overestimate willingness to pay, and skip customer validation entirely. Investors notice. Fast. 3. Your competitive edge isn’t what you’re building. It’s how deeply you understand the problem. Too many teams fall in love with what they’re building. The best founders stay married to the problem and are flexible on how to solve it. 4. Wiz didn’t win because they raised big. They executed early. “They brought in a world-class GTM hire on day one. That changed everything.” Startups often delay GTM too long or hire too junior. Sarit credits early, aggressive execution as the turning point in Wiz’s $10B+ journey. 5. Trust is your most undervalued asset. “Act in a way that makes people trust you. Everything else will follow.” Trust earns time, space, and belief. Without it, nothing sticks. It’s easy to romanticize startups from a distance. It’s harder to stay real when you’re inside the build. That’s why I appreciate conversations like this one. They remind us: → Behind every cap table is a team, behind every metric is a mindset. What’s one truth you wish more founders heard earlier in their journey? Let’s open the room. P.S. Sarit also invested in IVIX, founded by my own brother, Doron Passov (pictured with us here).

Scammers aren’t breaking in — they’re being invited in.... In yesterday's Fintech Takes newsletter, Alex Johnson referenced a recent blog post by Ronen Assia to explain what sets Charm Security, our newest fintech portfolio company — apart from traditional fraud detection solutions. By operating at the human layer, Charm helps financial institutions and platforms "break the spell" between customers and scammers — before fraudsters can get their hooks in. Read the full piece in Fintech Takes — and congrats again to the Charm team, Roy Zur and Avichai Ben on last week’s launch! https://lnkd.in/dXJETb95
