Since October 7, 2023, accounts from both parents and students reveal deliberate indifference and disregard by SCUSD district leadership to address issues of pervasive discrimination and bias against Jewish students. “SCUSD has allowed an egregiously hostile environment to fester for its Jewish and Israeli students in violation of its federal obligations and ethical responsibility to create a safe educational space for all students,” said Jenna Statfeld Harris, Senior Counsel and K-12 Specialist at StandWithUs Saidoff Legal.

I want to scream that I’m not okay. It’s hell. I’m stuck on October 7th [2023]. My Alon is stuck on October 7th [2023]! It’s hard for me to count the number of days Alon has been in hell. A year ago it was easier, because everyone talked about it, everyone mentioned it—and now I feel that if I don’t shout out his cry, no one will hear it. 551 days that my Aloni has been wounded—just because he went to a party. 551 days that Aloni isn’t just mine—he belongs to the entire State of Israel. He is the responsibility of our government, and only it can act and bring him back. As a mother, I can strengthen them to take the responsible, Jewish, Zionist, and right action—not to leave the wounded behind. This is the second Passover during which countless Jews around the world will sit around their holiday table and read “from slavery to freedom”—and what about Alon and the other 59 hostages? The Passover Haggadah of the Jewish people began somewhere in ancient Egypt, and it continues here, today, now. They must be freed to liberty! My beloved son, I am sending you infinite energy. You will come out of this hell alive! Mom and Dad will not stop, will not rest, until you are with us again. We love you, our child.”
