📣🚨 It's time folks 📣🚨 BIG REVEAL: Our team at Writers' Bloc EU has been working tirelessly around the clock to build a way to protect copyright and IP in 1-click. Yes, 1-click - it's that simple. Click. Protect. Earn. Check out the 60s demo video. Sign-up to the early-bird waitlist here to get early access ahead of everyone else, and directly have your say in the development process: https://lnkd.in/eSUfvF9S Journalism is the only creative sector where there is no established royalty mechanism to generate revenue through licensing or creating derivatives of the original. Music, films, books, video-games (you name it) all have established royalty mechanisms - except journalism. We're taking steps to fix this by creating a simple, yet powerful solution. In order to build a insanely great product, we need your help - we're looking for: a). people to try it out & give us feedback (what's good, what sucks) b). approx. 100 people for sample group c). journalists, writers, editors, publishers d). anyone who writes regularly or produces written content Sign-up now so you can be first in line to try it for free yourself: https://lnkd.in/eSUfvF9S In return for helping us perfect the first version of the plugin, you get : - unlimited digital fingerprints to protect your work - unrestricted access for 2 years - protect your entire library / archive - suggest features, functions & improvements you want to see our team to build for you Comment below, or feel free to DM me if you have questions / queries - I'd love to hear from you. Join the waitlist today! https://lnkd.in/eSUfvF9S Ps. not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of myself for building the prototype (see video), despite having next to no coding skills - learn on the job, entrepreneurship in action! • The market context in journalism and publishing is broken. But what does that mean? And what can we do about it? Our CEO John has done a deep dive into the industry to find out what is driving the problems from its foundation level. Check out our blog post on the problem here: https://lnkd.in/ezsA2jen Next week we'll share what we have been tirelessly working on to tackle this issue for the combined benefit of journalists, publishers, and big tech alike. Stay tuned! #mediabusiness #copyright #journalism

Big Tech’s Hidden Heist: Journalists and Publishers Are Losing Billions 93% of journalists have never received a payment from established international licensing agreements between publishers and online platforms (The Authors' Licensing & Collecting Society, 2024). Yet their work fuels billion-dollar industries. Ken Li's 1998 Vibe article sparked Fast and Furious – a $3 billion franchise today. He got a small, one-time fee for his work (0.001% of $3B). Joshuah Bearman's WIRED piece became Argo, but Wired owned the IP. Any extra pay was management’s discretionary call, not Bearman’s right. This is not an accident – journalists and publishers know what’s going on. It’s exploitative. However, it’s not necessarily the publishers’ fault – they are under huge stress to produce more premium content with fewer resources, whilst patience and trust continue to erode away. Over 1 million freelancers and 25,000–30,000 indie publishers are affected, seeing their work exploited on a daily basis. Everyone knows by now Big Tech scrapes archives for AI training. What might not be known is that it is resulting in a whopping $5 billion in lost revenue, and counting. See the The New York Times’ $3 billion lawsuit, or the $1 billion case from Chicago Tribune Media Group (both filed against OpenAI), or the myriad other suits pending. This follows a period where newspaper revenue dropped 62% from 2008–2018 (Pew Research Center), slashing investigative budgets and eroding trust in media. Journalism needs legal copyright protection and a fair licensing platform. Without it, talent dries up, and we have no one to speak truth to power. Ultimately democracy takes a hit. This is daylight robbery. Read the full story on our blog here: https://lnkd.in/e_tZNVFj Are you in the 93%? Share this if you know a journalist or publisher who’s been burned by a copyright disagreement – tag them below.

You may have noticed we've been quiet here since the turn of the year. Our team has been largely off-the-grid, working around the clock ("like beavers, Jeff!") on something that’s about to rewrite the rules of copyright & IP. We’ve relentlessly kept our heads-down to bring this to you, and trust me, it’s worth the wait. You’ve stuck with us, and now your patience is poised to pay-off. After the truly herculean effort from everyone involved, we are on the brink of something momentous - avoid disappointment, don't miss out. Buckle-up buckaroos, because we’re back, and it’s hyuuuge! #IP #blockchain #journalism

I want to hire a ruthless young seller for my business: Writers' Bloc EU. Looking for scary work ethic, strong communication skills, high IQ - and someone does it all with a smile. No sugar-coating: it will be a shit-load of work. However, it will also be extremely engaging and rewarding. • We are in Lisbon this week! 🇵🇹 Our CEO and co-founder, John B., will be live, and slightly out of focus, at Stand A578 this Tuesday (tomorrow), November 12, at Web Summit. If you’re an independent publisher, journalist, or investor eager to dive into what’s next in media and content, swing by for a chat. Be advised, he’s lost his glasses—so you can risk a stealthy fly-by without being seen (but we’d love it if you say hello!). John has recently been having eye-opening conversations with leading minds across our industry, particularly focused around the future of independent publishing - and we have some exciting news to announce around this, but we'll leave that to the side for now. This week John wants to continue these important conversations at Web Summit—what better place to discuss the next evolution of media? Plus, who knows? You might even walk away with a nugget of wisdom—and maybe a pastel de nata (okay, that last bit’s unconfirmed). 📍 Where to Find Us: Stand A578 – ready-to-go, caffeinated to the hilt, and eager to chat. Come be part of the story! #websummit #lisboa #lostglasses
