2025 is the first year the Welsh Gov't office in Ireland Marked St David's day with an event outside Dublin. What better place to do this than Limerick and The Southwest region, a place that just screams AMBITION. The similarities between Wales and this region are many: Both places are modestly sized (compared to nearby neighbors) with global ambition and the talent locally to back it up. Thanks to John Moran Mayor of Limerick for being the guest of honour at our Limerick dinner on Thursday evening. He is a leader with great vision and next level ambition. Great to catch up with old friends Janice O'Connell Laura Ryan Mike Cantwell Dennis Barry John Drysdale and Sharon McMeel and to make many new ones. It never ceases to amaze me what a tight-knit forward thinking network Limerick and surrounds collectively are. We book-ended the visit with two fascinating site visits. On Thursday, we dropped by the Future Mobility Ireland in Shannon. Right here alongside Shannon Airport, Russell VickersWassim Derguech are working with industry and academia to transform how the world moves people and goods by road and air. On Friday, we saw first-hand the size of the aspirations at Shannon Foynes Port. as it positions itself as one of Europe's most important ports. Thanks to the uber-knowledgeable Jerry Hallissey for showing us around. Of course, when considering large-scale ambition, there's no getting away from The Ryder Cup in Adare Manor in 2027, which looms large. From planned unmanned passenger drones from Shannon to Adare Manor to accommodating the giant Cruise ships berthing at Foynes and completing the planned civil infrastructure required to be place before the event, the challenges are many. However, work is well underway and after spending a couple of days here, there's nothing surer than Limerick will do justice to one of the worlds biggest sporting events when 2027 rolls around. ⛳ Trade & Invest Wales
