Our revolutionary, ambitious approach will create the best software engineers on the planet.
About us
Imagine a computer science degree where you learn by doing. Where you learn in studios working on projects, not in lecture halls. Where you never take an end-of-term exam. Where you get a Masters qualification in four years. Where you spend half your time being paid to solve some of society’s toughest problems in the world’s best companies, and half your time learning with the best lecturers and researchers. This is Immersive Software Engineering at the University of Limerick. In your four years at ISE you’ll complete up to five paid residencies, each between three and six months long. Each residency teaches you a suite of concrete skills and gives you the opportunities to practice them. Throughout the degree you’ll alternate your time between on-campus learning blocks and residencies in partner companies. “This course is a quantum leap in how software engineering is taught. Its revolutionary, ambitious approach will create the best software engineers on the planet — people who will shake and shape tomorrow's world.”

Had a fantastic week in London at the Bloomberg BWIT x Tech Lab. Out of 170 applicants, I was lucky to be one of 16 selected for the program. We covered everything from how to approach behavioral interviews to breaking down technical questions. A major highlight was the open conversations around imposter syndrome and how to push past it, especially as a woman navigating the tech industry. In the tech labs, I was given the opportunity to reinforce my existing Python and OOP abilities while also learning about FinTech terminology. Beyond the workshops, I had the chance to connect with brilliant, driven peers and inspiring mentors and engineers at Bloomberg, hearing about the awesome things going on in the company. Life-changing week.

What a brilliant day at the Republic of Work Pre-Accelerator Showcase! It was amazing to catch up with some NDRC friends and to get to see ISE students from team Kepri Solar talking about the incredible progress that they have made so far.

Even pheasants are trying to get into Immersive Software Engineering these days. And who can blame them? It’s a combined BSc/MSc that just takes four years to complete and you get to spend nearly half of that time out on residency with companies like Stripe, Amazon and Manna Drone Delivery. Awesome! Well done to everyone who took part! Ya love to see IT
Over the weekend, we hosted primary school children from all over Munster for the 10th Annual Analog Devices Primary School Robotics competition. Each team came ready to participate with personal cheering squads as they built and programmed their robots on-site during the exciting play-offs, where points were awarded for teamwork, design, and innovation. Congratulations to all the participating teams for a job well done and to our 2025 champions, Killoughteen National School!

ISE students were on hand at the Teen Turn Super Session this weekend to dispense knowledge and pizza. 60+ girls from Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick & Cork spent their Saturday with UL, industry & alum mentors to get mobile apps developed, business plans written & pitches filmed for the Technovation accelerator programme. Thanks to Aoibheann, Holly, Skye and Ryan for their time. Skye’s dino-biscuits went down a st-roar-m.

Some of our students built a digital roulette wheel in Python. Here they are explaining how they did it. If you are interested in studying this kind of thing with Immersive Software Engineering view our website at https://lnkd.in/e3tk2Jf Big thanks to Emmett Macken, Luca Knierim and Patrick O'Shea for their demo.
