The HPRA today announced that its Chief Executive, Dr Lorraine Nolan, will step down from her role in December 2025 to pursue new career options. Dr Nolan has served as the Chief Executive of the HPRA for over nine years and, by the end of 2025, she will have completed two terms in this leadership role. During her tenure, she successfully transformed the HPRA's regulatory functions while expanding its operations and enhancing its national, European and international standing. Her strategic leadership during Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic ensured the regulator's vital contribution nationally to the successful navigation of these challenges. Dr. Nolan has been centrally involved in the European medicines and medical devices regulatory networks. She has served as a member of the EMA Management Board, which she chaired from 2022-2025, and as a member of the HMA Management Group. Paying tribute, Professor Michael Donnelly, Chair of the HPRA, said “I wish to commend Dr Nolan for her unwavering leadership and dedication to the organisation. Her tenure has been marked by significant achievements and a hugely positive, enduring legacy. I want to express both my personal thanks and that of the Authority to Lorraine for her service and wish her every success with her future endeavours”. The Authority will shortly commence the process for recruitment of a new Chief Executive of the HPRA to take up the position from January 2026. Read more: https://lnkd.in/erG6vFUM

For the first time, all 27 EU countries together with Iceland and Norway have collected and reported data on both sales and use of antimicrobials in animals in their countries. The findings are presented in the first European Sales and Use of Antimicrobials for Veterinary Medicine (#ESUAvet) annual surveillance report. This work is extremely important for tackling #antimicrobialresistance. The data cover the year 2023, the starting point of a regular exercise that will result in yearly reports.
