Supporting people who are homeless or at risk in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan & Louth.

About us

Dublin Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan & Louth. We provide services at all stages of homelessness and enable people to move to a place they can call home. At Simon, we listen to people who turn to us for help and do everything we can to support them to move out of homelessness into independent living. We strive to empower people to access, secure and retain a home of their own by reducing the reliance on short-term emergency accommodation and providing permanent supported housing for people to sustain a home in their local community. Moving people into supported housing produces life-enhancing and life-saving results and is more cost-effective in the long run. The organisation was founded by a group of Trinity and UCD students in 1969, who began by providing much-needed soup and sandwiches to people who were sleeping rough in Dublin city centre. In addition to the Soup Run, which still goes out 365 nights of the year, Dublin Simon provide many services which aim to help those who are sleeping rough on the streets, people who are in their own accommodation but at risk of homelessness and those who are at any of the stages in between. (Charity number CHY 5963).

  • Meet Anne Lillis, one of our wonderful art volunteers pictured with her loyal companion, Beauty, who is known to lend a paw or two during our inspiring art classes organised by our Client Development team 🎨. Anne shares: “Being an art volunteer with Client Development has given me experience in basic mindfulness, creativity, and connection. Working with the clients has been a true privilege that has shown me the strength and creative potential we can all access to support ourselves in challenging times.” Today, on World Art Day, we are proud to showcase some of the amazing artwork created by our clients - each piece telling a unique story of resilience, reflection, and hope 💛 For many of our clients, our art classes offer a moment of calm amidst chaos, a space to express emotions beyond words, and a chance to reconnect with themselves. These moments of self-expression are only possible through the dedication and passion of volunteers like Anne, who help create a welcoming, supportive space for creativity to flourish. We are always looking for volunteers who can dedicate some time and inspire creativity. If you are interested in volunteering, email PTV@dubsimon.ie. #DublinSimon #WorldArtDay #CreativityForAll #Empowerment #ArtForChange #CommunitySupport

  • Meet Joaquin, along with Dan Thanh and Kimberly - a few of the many incredible youth volunteers who help make our clients feel at home in our services 💛 Joaquin shares a small moment from their day, preparing toasties for our clients. This simple act can make all the difference in a client’s day - it is not just about the warm meal, but about creating space for conversation and connection. As we celebrate Youth Work Ireland Week, we want to take a moment to thank all of our youth volunteers for the dedication and compassion they bring each day. Your small actions have a big impact on our clients' lives. Thank you for all you do to make sure our clients feel valued, supported, and cared for! #DublinSimon #YouthWorkIrelandWeek #Volunteering #YouthVolunteers #MakingADifference #CommunitySupport

  • Positive meeting with Rory Hearne TD, Social Democrats Spokesperson for Housing, and our colleagues in Simon Communities of Ireland.   We briefed Rory on homeless and housing developments in Dublin Simon including discussion on the rental market, shortfall in funding and homeless health and treatment initiatives.   The task is great, in both the charity and political sectors, to ensure a new housing plan addresses the needs of those we support.

  • On #WorldHealthDay 🩺✨, we asked some of the nurses at our Health and Addiction Care Facility at Usher’s Island about the best part of being a nurse at Dublin Simon. • As we celebrate World Health Day today, we are thrilled to announce that our Health and Addiction Care Facility at Usher's Island has been awarded “Building of the Year - Medical & Health” at the prestigious Building and Architect of the Year Awards! Catherine Kenny, our CEO, and Rory O'Moore, our Senior Property Development Manager, had the honour of attending the ceremony last week: “I am so proud to be part of this award-winning project. The building is already changing lives on a daily basis and is a real testament to the passion, belief, and talent that everyone on the team has put in. We have always felt the architectural design was very special and captures the ethos of the service we provide to our clients, but now it has been validated by this award in the architectural world. The quality of construction, the attention to detail by the whole delivery team, as well as the design of the building, is what gives it the extra star quality.” A huge thank you to Kate O'Hea, Sean Mahon, Kevin Coffey and all the team at OCMA as well as all the design team members in Arup, Linesight, IPUT Real Estate Dublin and Oakfield Project Management, as well as the entire construction crew at Duggan Brothers (Contractors) Limited and all their subcontractors who delivered the building to us. #DublinSimon #DublinSimonUshers #BuildingAwardsIRL #WorldHealthDay2025

  • We are excited to announce the continuation of our partnership with the Law Society of Ireland for Calcutta Run 2025🏃. This marks the second year of our collaboration, and we could not be more grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by all involved. During the recent launch event, we had the pleasure to reconnect with our valued colleagues from the Law Society of Ireland, The Hope Foundation and other law firms across Ireland. Since its inception, the Calcutta Run event has raised an incredible €5.65 million, directly supporting homelessness services in both Ireland and Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). The funds raised last year specifically benefitted Chester House, our High Support Long Term Housing service. We look forward to uniting once again this year on May 24th, to continue driving transformative change in homelessness services in both Ireland and Kolkata. #DublinSimonCommunity #CalcuttaRun2025 #TheLawSociety #RunForACause #EndHomelessness #LegalFundraiser

For many, Mother’s Day is a time of joy, but for mothers experiencing homelessness, it can be a day filled with pain and uncertainty. Take a moment to read the deeply moving story shared by one of our dedicated staff members at Longfields. Every mother deserves a safe place to call home and the opportunity to create lasting memories with her children. • Ireland’s homelessness figures have once again reached unprecedented heights. The national crisis continues to spiral out of control. The latest data from the Department of Housing confirms 10,948 individuals now in emergency accommodation in Dublin—a staggering 8% year-on-year increase. The latest report also includes 1,520 families and 3,434 children living in emergency accommodation in Dublin, a figure that does not even account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
