AxisBIC
Business Consulting and Services
Private-sector led organisation, specifically set up to identify, build & grow knowledge intensive companies
About us
AxisBIC (formerly CorkBIC) is an organisation set up over 35 years ago to identify and build knowledge intensive companies based on promising technology and capable innovative people. It plays a hands-on role helping entrepreneurs navigate the minefield of raising finance and sorting out business propositions. Every year, AxisBIC identifies, selects and develops about 12 higher potential startups per year and works as a hands-on catalyst or project developer in infrastructure gap initiatives. At any one time, there would be 40 to 50 companies or projects in the pipeline, ranging from new start-ups to existing companies planning to scale. Over the past 35 years the organisation has put more than 500 start-ups through the system, many of whom come back and re-engage. More than eight out of ten start-ups who work with AxisBIC through this process survive after five years – currently (and over 25 years) an 85% survival rate after 5 years, far outstripping the international average of 50%.

The Team at AxisBIC (formerly CorkBIC) are very saddened to hear of the untimely death of John Mullins. John was always a great friend and supporter of the BIC and participated in many of our events including the EBAN Annual Congress in 2022 and many other events like our Showcase, Entrepreneur Experience and Venture Academy - John will be missed hugely by the Cork business community and our thoughts are now with John's family - may he rest in peace.
Following the untimely death of Amarenco co-founder and former Bord Gáis Energy CEO John Mullins yesterday, Thomas Hubert spoke with his friends and colleagues Simon Coveney, Denis O'Sullivan, David Maguire and Valérie David-McGonnell. They remember him as an entrepreneur with a passion for public service, always ready to don the green jersey — or that of Cork. That’s a wrap on Venture Academy 2025! 🎬 What a fantastic day yesterday at River Lee Hotel , Cork, as we closed out this year’s Venture Academy with an incredible pitch finale. Eight standout companies from a wide range of sectors took to the stage to pitch their ventures in front of a room full of investors and industry stakeholders—capping off weeks of dedicated work alongside our incredible mentors. The standard this year was truly exceptional. Huge congratulations to: Capisso – awarded Best Pitch by audience vote & Valentia Island Vermouth – named Most Investable by our expert panel of judges. A big well done to all participants—you made the selection process worthwhile and brought serious energy and innovation to the room. And of course, none of this would be possible without the continued support of our partners, Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí & Cork County Council. Thank you!
