On behalf of the NetPositive and HEC Paris students, Sophie was invited yesterday to HEC Paris for a panel discussion with Samia Boukbir ⏚ (Founder of Collectivo) and Clara Cherblanc (Advocacy Manager at the Fédération de la Mode Circulaire). It was an insightful conversation with students about circular fashion and the challenges we face in expanding new solutions in a world that’s still largely built on linear models. Sophie shared the Weturn experience on large-scale recycling, highlighting that real change requires transforming industry practices through key factors: 📣 Regulations that promote circularity within brands and industries ⚖️ The right balance of volumes and quality ♻️ Changing consumer behavior and raising collective awareness For some context, millions of tons of raw materials are wasted each year, and only 1% of textile waste is recycled in a truly closed loop. The discussion provided also an opportunity to talk about the impact of new regulations on company operations through some key points : 👉 Integrating new processes into businesses. For instance, with the French AGEC law, companies now have to follow a strict treatment hierarchy: donation, reuse, upcycling, recycling. Since no solutions existed before, startups are stepping up to fill this gap. 👉 Hiring new talent. Changing regulations are creating new jobs and responsibilities, leading to a real transformation within companies. 👉 Creating circularity committees. To effectively implement circular practices, it’s essential to bring together different departments within the company to collaborate on shared challenges and needs.
