  • Around Easter, many of us indulge in a little (or a lot) of chocolate. It’s part of the joy of the season. But it’s also a good time to be mindful of the packaging that comes with it. 🐣 This Easter, we are happy to have contributed to having helped Orkla Suomi do a pilot project for its beloved Panda Milk chocolate, where the PP plastics wrappers is replaced by a sustainable fibre-based solution. While UPM supplied the paper material, we did the printing of the wrapper and coated the cold seal lacquer. This is our first development of recyclable cold seal lacquer on paper. The usual option would be a heat sealable option, but the heat could harm the delicate chocolate. So if you choose Panda’s milk chocolate this Easter, you can recycle it as carton. A good reason to eat some more chocolate! Happy Easter! 🐤 You can read more about the packaging in the link below👇 https://lnkd.in/dMP5rWdA #TransformingMaterials #CircularFuture #PaperBasedPackaging Orkla Finland UPM Specialty Papers

  • 🍽️ A new layer of sustainability: #Compostable_Film for #fibre_based_trays 🌿 In this Walki Experts interview, Marko Päiväniemi shares how Bioska 506 functions as a compostable lamination film for fibre-based trays—providing effective protection barrier while keeping the tray fully compostable. Perfect for food service environments like canteens, restaurants and food trucks, Bioska 506 ensures packaging performs reliably and composts naturally — with no microplastics left behind. It's a smart solution for businesses looking to reduce plastic use and help close the loop in food packaging. 🎥 Watch the full interview to discover how your trays can do more than just serve—they can return to nature. #WalkiExperts #Bioska506 #TransformingMaterials #CircularFuture

  • 30.03 is the #International_Day_of_Zero_Waste — a reminder that how we manage our kitchen waste truly matters. ♻️   In Europe, 74% of kitchen waste still ends up in landfills or incinerators. That’s millions of tonnes of lost value every year. But it doesn’t have to be this way. All this organic #kitchen_waste can be transformed into #nutrient_rich_compost — a valuable organic fertilizer that returns to the soil and supports new growth. A true circular solution.   To make it happen, we need to: ♻️ Strengthen systems for bio-waste collection and recycling 🌱 Empower people to separate their bio-waste 🏡 Make composting a clean and easy part of everyday life   At Walki, we support solutions like Bioska compostable bags that make sorting simple and mess-free. Because real progress starts with real action.   👉 Swipe through to learn more. #TransformingMaterials #CircularFuture #CompostableBags

How do you ensure fibre-based packaging is truly recyclable? You test it first. ♻️To meet the design-for-recycling criteria under the PPWR, packaging must be easy to collect, sort and reprocess into high-quality recycled materials. But finding the optimal material composition—especially when thin polymer coatings are needed for barrier properties—is a complex challenge as small tweaks in the material combinations can significantly impact recyclability. To accelerate innovation and validation, Walki has invested in an in-house laboratory for recyclability testing of fibre-based packaging materials. Instead of relying on time-consuming external labs, new materials and combinations can now be tested internally for reject rates and compliance with industry standards. Read more on how Shohei Sanada and his team set up a new in-house evaluation system to test for recyclability, link 👇 https://lnkd.in/d_bqaqBV #TransformingMaterials #CircularFuture #RecyclabilityTest

  • Dermeco appointed as an exclusive representative for Walki’s Bioska films in Wound Care 🤝 Two innovative Finnish companies, Walki Group and Dermeco Oy, have entered into an agreement, whereby Dermeco is acting as an exclusive representative for Walki’s Bioska films in the Wound Care market. 🍀 Through this co-operation, Dermeco aims to provide sustainable materials to their customers to be used in connection with wound care products that currently use conventional, non-degradable plastics-based solutions. This creates a tremendous opportunity for companies to decrease their environmental footprint that is caused by the usage of plastics in the existing products. 🌱 Walki is a pioneer and a European leader in introducing sustainable materials, helping industries transform their product portfolios towards more sustainable options. All Walki’s Bioska biodegradable films are manufactured in accordance with the European standard for Home and Industrial compostability, EN 13432, which means that they are complying with strict criteria related to biodegradability, disintegration and ecotoxicity. Walki’s Bioska plant is powered by CO2-free energy and harnesses waste heat in its processes to reduce CO2 emissions. In parallel, Dermeco is in the process of finalizing its unique and patented hydrocolloid wound dressing formulation to offer potential clients with a sustainable product solution that decomposes into water, carbon dioxide and humus, and thus not burdening the nature with plastic waste and microplastics.

📣 Great news! The 4evergreen alliance updated its Recyclability Evaluation Protocol. 4evergreen is an alliance of over 100 members representing the entire fibre-based packaging value chain, from forests to producers, designers, brand owners, and recyclers. 👉 The goal? Achieving a 90% recycling rate for fibre-based packaging by 2030. The document describes the technical recyclability assessment and score calculation procedures of fibre-based packaging items and/or materials. Part II and III were now introduced on the recycling mill with a flotation-deinking process and on recycling mill with specialised process for Used Beverage Cartorns (UBC). For 2025 the topics are already defined for further evolution of the protocol. Be active contributor for the next steps! ➡ Download it on their website: https://lnkd.in/dVhZuZa6 #TransformingMaterials #Recyclability
