A couple of years ago, I randomly decided to dive deeper into the world of wine. That’s when I found Wine Courses Barcelona, a Wine & Spirit Education Trust school run by Sharon Grundy in the heart of the city. I’d always loved wine and food in general, but back then I just wanted to learn more about something I already enjoyed (and maybe meet new people who shared that passion). I had no career plans and no long-term goals. Just a bit of curiosity and a genuine interest. The experience turned out to be amazing! So, as a way to say thank you, I offered to create a short documentary (free of charge) about the school, the people behind it, and how the courses are run. But there was also another reason. For the last few years, I’ve worked in video production, mostly producing and editing YouTube content. My work has always been faceless: no people, no real-life footage, just montage. I’d never actually stepped into the field to shoot real people and real stories. This was my first attempt to explore a different kind of storytelling, one that I’d like to move toward, after years spent behind timelines and voiceovers. Of course, the video is far from perfect. I see every single mistake. But those mistakes were part of the deal. Without them, there’s no learning. (I know, classic LinkedIn quote, but this one’s actually true.) 🍷Winemakers around the world are redefining tradition with low-alcohol wines, blending innovation with consumer demand. 🌱In Spain, significant advancements are being made in the production of low-alcohol wines. In February 2025, at Barcelona Wine Week, @cellerjordimiro unveiled Nakens, Spain’s first dry wine with a 9% alcohol content included in a DO. This wine, made entirely from Parellada grapes, is not dealcoholized but leverages the grape’s naturally low sugar levels. Traditionally, such low-alcohol wines were not permitted within the Denominación de Origen (DO) system, but this wine received DO status, indicating a shift in regulatory perspectives. 💵 @familiatorres1870 is investing close to €6 million euros to establish a winery dedicated exclusively to non-alcoholic wines at their headquarters in Pacs del Penedès, Catalonia. This initiative underscores the growing demand for low-alcohol and alcohol-free beverages. 📈The trend towards low-alcohol wines aligns with broader European efforts to rejuvenate the wine industry amidst declining consumption. Experts suggest that embracing low and non-alcoholic wines presents economic opportunities and caters to evolving consumer preferences. The future of wine looks more diverse than ever!
