🌍 Exciting Breakthrough in Water Treatment from the VALZEO Project! 🌊 We’re thrilled to share a major milestone from the VALZEO project (HORIZON MSCA 101086354), led by an international team including Tania Farias Piñeira from University of Havana , Pilar Fernandez-Ibanez PhD Professor at Ulster University and Dr. Maria de la Menta Ballesteros Martin from Universidad Pablo de Olavide, a proud partner of the VALZEO consortium. Our latest study, published in the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, introduces NZ-Fe-Cu, a groundbreaking mineral-based catalyst that removes emerging pollutants and antibiotic-resistant bacteria from water. 💧 🌊 🧪 Tested on real samples from the #Guadaíra River, this innovative material eliminated 29 contaminants—including pharmaceuticals and pesticides—while achieving near-complete bacterial disinfection. By harnessing natural zeolite clinoptilolite and a heterogeneous photo-Fenton process, NZ-Fe-Cu offers a sustainable, low-cost solution for water treatment, ideal for agricultural and non-potable uses. 🧪 ⏳ 🗞️ This work, a collaboration with the University of Havana (also a VALZEO consortium partner), Ulster University, and other leading institutions, brings us closer to cleaner water and a greener future. 🚀 Bridging Knowledge Gaps in European Research: A New Study on Widening Countries & Horizon Europe 🌍📚 On March 17, 2025, the European Commission’s Publications Office released an insightful study titled: 📖 “To what extent are widening countries part of knowledge networks formed by the framework programmes?” This study, a key part of the Horizon Europe interim evaluation, sheds light on how Widening countries are integrating into European knowledge networks across FP7, Horizon 2020, and early Horizon Europe. It builds upon the 2024 study on Excellent Science, providing critical insights into research collaboration and innovation ecosystems.
