Christian Lacroix SNC, the label, has been acquired — and the couturier himself has given the deal his blessing. “It’s Lacroix, sweetie!” The iconic phrase from Absolutely Fabulous might soon be back in fashion. Spanish company Sociedad Textil Lonia (STL) has acquired 100 % of the French fashion house in what it calls “a private transaction”. In a statement, STL praised the “vision, magic and craftsmanship” of Maison Lacroix, hinting at plans to reignite the brand’s legacy. Lacroix himself — who has given the sale his blessing — made his name at Parisian house PATOU (founded by Jean Patou in 1912) before setting out on his own in 1987, backed by investment from LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault. Rising to fame in the 80's for his bold, exuberant designs like pouf skirts and colourful ballgowns, Lacroix took his final bow at the autumn 2009 couture show. However, collaborations like his one-off for SCHIAPARELLI, a SS20 “fantastical bromance” collection with DRIES VAN NOTEN and recent red carpet appearances of archival Lacroix pieces, suggest the label is on the cusp of a revival.
