At Parques Reunidos, biodiversity conservation, animal welfare, and scientific research are fundamental pillars of our daily work. Each of our parks is deeply committed to these values, as demonstrated by Zoo Aquarium de Madrid, which recently saved the life of Kira, a 10-year-old Asiatic lioness (Panthera leo persica), who successfully underwent a complex surgical procedure to remove a chondrosarcoma, a rare type of cancer. To ensure the best possible diagnosis and treatment, a large team of veterinary specialists worked hand in hand with imaging experts and cutting-edge medical technology. This collaboration between Zoo Aquarium de Madrid and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Universidad Complutense de Madrid made it possible to carry out a high-performance CT scan on-site, minimizing risks and prioritizing Kira’s safety. These kinds of interventions not only save lives but also contribute to the advancement of veterinary knowledge applied to wild species, many of which are endangered in their natural habitats. We continue to strengthen our commitment to accessibility and inclusion in our parks. At Parques Reunidos are proud to be the first company in Spain to join the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜 network, an initiative that allows people with non-visible disabilities to discreetly indicate their need for support by wearing the Sunflower symbol. Our teams at 11 parks across Spain will receive training to foster a more welcoming and accessible environment for all our visitors. This initiative will be available at Faunia, Zoo Aquarium Madrid, Atlantis Aquarium Madrid, Selwo Marina, SELWO AVENTURA, Teleférico de Benalmádena, and the Aquopolis parks in Villanueva de la Cañada, Costa Dorada, Cullera, and Torrevieja. We continue working to ensure that fun is an experience accessible to everyone. That’s why Parque Warner Madrid, Parque de Atracciones de Madrid and Zoo Aquarium de Madrid have signed an agreement with the CNSE (Confederación Estatal de Personas Sordas) to improve accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in our facilities. Thanks to this partnership, we have implemented a comprehensive accessibility project in Spanish Sign Language (LSE), ensuring that every attraction and space in the parks provides clear and understandable information, including texts adapted to Spanish Sign Language (LSE), videos with accessible subtitles and additional voiceovers to enhance the accessibility of audiovisual materials. Furthermore, as part of our commitment to inclusion, we have signed an agreement with Asociación Achalay España to promote the labor integration of people at risk of social exclusion.
